my first REAL Model

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

Is this at least better?

Better then your other one, now that's a good start! ;)

What happened to the detail? All you did was drag a plane over the outline of the whole gun, save the barrel, and dragger the edges...

I doubt you watched the Plane Modeling vtm's we gave you, or if you did you totally ignored 99% of it..

Should I post my textured version? Sorry. I was doing the plane trick, though, but the polys won't let me make it like the picture.
Hey tony, How many times Do I have to nudge you in MIM? You never answer. (Yes, it's me)

Wow, a box.

It's hardly better than the other one at all, the idea of modelling is to make the object in 3D. Tracing the outline, extruding, and adding a pair of cylinders is not modelling. It's terrible, start again and this time watch the video tutorials which poor bloody Snaf has to post over and over to try and stem the tide of boxes...

it's just a spline with cylinders. watch the plane modeling video tuts before you dare ever post a model again.

Dude. No. Do you even know who Katarn and Snaf are? They are some of the few 1337est modelers that have ever set foot in CE. =D

Dude, I used a box at the end of the gun then repeatedly extruded and I lined up the vertices in a 2 hour process. so yeah, it was real effort.
花花公子, 我使用了一个箱子在枪的末端一再然后挤压了并且我排队了端点在一个2 个小时过程中。那么呀, 这是真正的努力。

ok, don't spaz. if you used a box, then you wasted your time. you can achieve the same quality as that by using a spline and extruding it. making a flat box in the shape of a gun is not real effort, please don't tell me it is.

8,000 polies for that? 2 hours?

I don't know what the hell you did, but I could do the same with less than a quarter of the polygons and in about 5 minutes by just splining and extruding or planing it out and extruding. Snaf's link is to a tutorial which explains pretty much the best way to make a game-poly gun, I suggest you do your best to follow it and learn from it.

Wowowowowwo guys hold up :?

Could we cut out all the hating and bashing, your making yourselves look worse more then anything. :(

I have a few things to say, but first of all, I'll say this:
For your first real model, I think it looks great. Modelling is a slow process and it takes a long time to make it work out good, hell, my first few models were just primitives slapped together. I'm glad you were able to use the techniques you knew like view port refrences and vertice dragging to the best of your ability. I understand it isn't that great; or game quality; or really show quality for that matter, but still you have to start somewhere. Practice makes perfect, so stay at it (You've probably heard that a million times in your life, but its becasue its true)

Second: Listen to these other guys, they are trying to help and make your model the best it can be. Snaf and Ross are great modellers, and everything they say is useful advice. They aren't trying to hurt you or the model, so never get that idea.

Third: Lets lighten up on people, guys. Who knows, this guy could be the next best CE mapper ever, don't nail him into the ground.

Rossmum, the first part of that last post was completely unnecessary.

Wtf? nobody was bashing whatsoever. Everyone just told him to improve and told him to use that tutorial. Nobodies telling him to give up, so it's fine. And relying on it being a first model is not a good excuse. Instead of making something bad and then saying "oh it's ok it's my first one", try doing something really well and spend more then 2 hours on it.

Don't believe it was, he'll never learn if people don't have the guts to tell him the truth without padding it out first...
