Well well well...My brother has recently been "WoW"'d, but not by Vista, but by the silly Mac ads and has bought a MacBook...
I have played around with it in its stock installation form and well...What's there to do on it? Like I can like, open an old version of iTunes, play some movies in Quicktime and use teh internets and stuff.........Wowzers.

But what I wanna know is what other things can one do on there? What are some good applications and uses for them? Cos if these extra things are kool then I'll end up stealing it but for now its like: I can see why Mac's are considered fast, because there's nothing good on there to slow it down (Like a stock windows installation too >_>)

FYI, I'm not trying to insult you mac users Mr Kirk and Shadowkhas and...That other Mac guy that pops up here in the cafe' everynow and then...I just want to try out some kool stuff on it. Esp after the ads talk themselves up

Don't know, but we had a Mac guy do a presentation at our school Thursday and Final Cut studio or whatever looks fucking amazing. Go buy it.

I think the biggest thing is that it's simple. A stock installation will have nearly everything you need on it. A simple but powerful movie editor, a very good photo tool, etc, etc. Now Vista is trying to do that too, but if you look at programs like Windows Calendar, it looks like a DIRECT take off of iCal, even down to the pastel colors they used for notes.
Now, once you get more advanced, it's even better. Like Tural said, Final Cut Studio is an amazing program. Now that there's a FCS 2, which I haven't tried, there's a bunch of crazy stuff that looks completely awesome, if you have the money. Check it out for yourself: www.apple.com/finalcutstudio .
But, comparing Vista to OS X, what does Vista have on it that makes it a better stock install? I found it to be nearly the same.

OS X has a lot of great software built in that Windows can't match. It also provides an excellent user interface and is very stable and secure. There's plenty of good software available for it, particularly graphics and video related. Widgets are fun too.

The thing is, it really depends on what you're looking for in a computer.
I'm a programmer, I have 7 years of experience in Visual Basic, 3 years in C++ and a year in C#, plus I've been doing HTML and PHP for the past 3 years (I think all that gets rapped up here), and I'm only 17.
As I said, it all depends on what you're looking for. When I'm looking for a computer, I never consider a Mac not because of some preconceived notion that Macs are inferior to PCs, but because I'm looking for a programming machine on which I can use Microsoft-endorsed languages like VB, VC++, VC#, etc.
I'm sure if I was a film fanatic or a musician, I may have better reason to buy a Mac.
My verdict: Neither system has any true upper hand when you look at everything, but when you get down to specific topics, one system may just be a better choice.
(and yes, btw, I have considered looking into Linux, but in a very simple sort of way... I'd love to be able to just dual boot off of this thing... Vista/Linux...)

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I personally despise fancy themes and styles. I want more of a down-to-Earth sort of look in my computer, which is why I use the Windows Classic theme and always have. When I first saw the original Mac Vs PC commercials, the first though that went through my head was "hell yes, PCs are more business-y and professional and Macs are more laid back", I like business-y and professional. I also don't care if the company that makes my OS is making a 'bajillion' dollars off of people like me: good, I hope to do exactly that some day.
We're pretty much divided as so:
There are those who like things artsy, they use Macs.
There are those who work for a living, they use PCs.
There are those who despise all ideas of cost and profit, they use Linux.
Then there is Microsoft, who wants to take Mac's artsy people. Unfortunately, I think they're going to start losing the business end as Macs come with everything Microsoft should give you, as I once heard from a friend. I noticed when I first ran my Linux build it had everything I would need except programming tools - but those happen to be free for every OS. Now, me, I have very specific needs that can only be met by Windows, others may be in the same situation with a Mac or even Linux. I don't like to judge.
I say, to each his own (computer that is)

Well yea I don't really understand your point... Computers only come with the software included in the install, and you said it yourself that PCs are the same way (have nothing really with the base OS install). So how is this any different?

I love you. That's the point I try to make to people, and that's why I bought my current system instead of going to a new Mac: Cost vs. Performance.
For a LOT cheaper, I got a better system, but the downside is that I don't have everything that I'm used to, and things are harder for me to do on XP than OS X.

I concur. However, everyone who states that Macs have "an excellent user interface" as if it were fact is just as bad. That is an opinion, and it should be presented as such. Personally, I hate the Mac UI, I'd be hard pressed to find one thing I like about it. My opinion can be summed up here:

Final Cut Studio 2 and Aperture are pretty amazing. Though it would be best to have Mac Pro to use those, not a laptop.

Though I don't reall like Macs much, I use them in school. Some great programs to check out are GarageBand and Final Cut Pro. Final Cut is incredible, and GarageBand requires basically no skill at all. But they are both great, fun, and powerful programs.

my favorite thing about the Mac OS is how you can just pick it up and use it. also, i like the minimal interface. i still use windows as my main OS though because i'm used to it, and it has games on it. but i'd like to toy with the notion that mac is essentially linux (open up a terminal in mac, tadaa!) i wonder if you can get linux apps to run on it?

Exactly...but it's a professional-class video editing suite. Not just Final Cut Pro, you've also got Motion, Soundtrack, Color, and DVD Studio Pro (nobody cares about Compressor).

So now I'm "That other Mac guy"? ... I feel inadequate

So yeah, pretty much everything I'd recommend has already been mentioned. I'd suggest getting CrossOver, after it gets all its compatibility stuff worked out. It runs Windows apps in OSX, if you ever feel the need to do so. On the other hand, I guess it's kinda pointless if you already have a PC.

To tell the truth, I could care less about looks. I don't even like a fair amount of the graphics in the Mac OS, but that's not a reason not to like something... I mean, seriously, Vista? It's all wrong :/ Wee, a good looking Windows OS. Too bad it's so slow... (that slow comment wasn't from me, it was coming from a person who uses PC's exclusively)

Or whatever.. I don't even care anymore. I use both.

Same here. I primarily use my PC, but I'll hop onto my eMac to do some playing with GarageBand or mess with a 3D program.
