[Halo 2 Rendering] Creating and postioning your Biped TuT

Post by squid267 »

Hi, if you are wondering how to position and/or create a Biped so then you can use the skin modifier/or Phisyque modifier to pose, then you are at the right place. This TuT is very detailed in pics so it is really easy. Note: I'm not showing you how to use the Skin or Phisyque modifier only creating the Biped and positioning it.

Creating the Biped

First You want to open 3ds Max( I have version 9, so my controls might a wee bee different if you have a different version.) Open you MC, then Click Create>Systems>Biped

Image

Image

Next is setup the Biped. You do this by looking at the right side of your screen. There should be a Biped Tool Box kinda of thing. Change the Spine links to 2
Fingers to 5
Finger links to 3

Image

Positioning Biped

IMPORTANT

First before you doing anything go into figure mode.

Image

Next Create the Biped by click in the Window showed in picture and drag up to around the Mc Head.

Image

Next go the the windows to the left of it. Click the rotation tool and rotate the biped around so it is facing the way showed in the pic.

Image

Next move the biped into the MC's mesh. DO this by clicking the pointer tool and click the red arrow to move the biped.

Image

Next we will make the screen bigger. By click the button that makes it bigger, look at pic lol.

Image

We will work on the leg next. All instructions are in the pics for the leg.

Now on to other leg but 3ds Max 9 has a wonderful feature called COPY/PASTE!!!!! So roll the right side of the 3ds max down to copy/paste and Follow the next set of pictures.

WOO HOO done with LEG legs go to the head, if you have one, jk.

Follow this pic to position the head.
Image

First SAVE. Next is the ARM. Follow these sets of pic to position the arm.

Note you may need to move the calvicle down. And for the fingers no pics but usually all you need to do it rotate them down a wee bit. After this you can copy and paste, the same way you did for the legs.

And you should be DONE!! SAVE and apply the material to check if the biped is showing if it is adjust the biped as needed. Thanks for reading good luck on your Halo 2 Render and I hoped you earned something from this, and if you need pics on a specific thing post here and I will try to get it in as soon as possible.

you didnt actually explain how to use a skin/physique modifier. setting the bones is really the easiest part.

Few things:
Your rotational coordinates are off because you didn't use the Angle Snap or manual inputs.
You didn't properly center the bipd with the mesh which is easily done with the coordinate inputs.
You posed the entire bipd without ever scaling the bones to actually fit the mesh.

This tutorial is very improper and leaves many errors.

Never said I would do that, I clearly sated that it is just the biped creation and positioning.

Tural: i guess its not at all the best but enough to get maybe the just of it?

Well, it'd be nice if you posted how to do the skin/physique modifier.

It looks like his was done via materials, but I believe F3 toggles true wireframe.

when i try to turn my guy at the very first, it just tweakes his body in crazy angles.

Is there a certain thing that has to be selected to turn the whole body as one? I tried highlighting the whole biped but still wont turn properly....

I didn't really understand what you said but I think you are asking if you need to attach the parts. Ans the answer is Yes you need to attach all the parts do this by Right clicking on part and then left cclick the rest of the Mc's parts.

Can you take a pic. Right now your best bet is to just start all over. I usually restart my biped many times, and I am again trying to do whaat Tural said so I can make the tut better.

Hey Tural Can you help me center the biped, I used the Angle Snap and I got a perfect 90 Degree rotation, I'm guessing that's right. Well how do i find the coordinate inputs or is it guesswork?

You cannot apply the Biped to the mesh. You have to use the Skin or Phisyque modifier.

Here's a video Tut by Jahrain to use the skin modifier. http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?pg=3&fid=1262

At the bottom of the Max window you can see three text boxes (X, Y and Z). These are your coordinate inputs in which you can enter specific values depending on which tool you have selected.

There are two reasons why I will not do that:

1) I do not know how well of a job I can do without learning a couple of more stuff about the biped such as scaling, coordinate inputs in such.

2) People should try to experiment, and learn by themselves looking for the easy way out ain't going help when you try modeling weapons and such.

And Tural I know how to scale the bones, but I'm not exactly sure like how much should I scale. Should I scale them to the edge of the Mc Mesh?

The thickness isn't nearly as important as the length.

Edit: I just re-read this post.
Needless to say, I laughed.

Haha! Lolzers. Birdman, are you sure clicked the claviccle because sometimes you think you clicked but it actually click a part of the mesh.
