Vista alternatives

Post by turk645 »

We need to get a few alternatives for apps for the vista users, like myself. I miss being able to use the uberscreenshot tool.

You poor, poor dial-up user...
Ahem, uh, anyway, I completely agree. I'm about to get Vista installed on every comp in my house, so I don't know how I am going to live with myself.

Btw, does Entity work on Vista?

I have Vista HP and I've yet to have problems with any applications (save for one game, but it was due to its exe protection, which needs to gtfo anyway). But I also run it Win2k style because its the best.

Vista requirements:
1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

512 MB of system memory

20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

Sure PCs are getting more powerful, but that shouldn't give M$(or anyone) an excuse to bloat their OS. I mean, what does it do to necessitate such high minimum requirements. Keep in mind, too, that since it needs those specs as a minimum, it's gonna have that much less resources to devote to your apps/games etc...

Anyway, just my rant about how, IMHO, an OS shouldn't have to list it's min requirements(look at linux, it can run on an old 386 33Mhz, not with all the abilities a faster PC would allow, but the point is it'll run...)

And having said all that I use Windows XP :P .

And Microsoft said... "Vista will be backwards compatible with everything that Windows XP was compatible with"

and what do they do...... lets see, 90% of games don't work attall and if they do its usually at 1 ~ 2FPS.... and that's on top of the line pc's....

so i say.... WHY IN GODS NAME UPDATE TO VISTA ANYWAY?

That's like updating to a Calculator...... if that.

Vista will overwrite the boot sector on load..... and also..... your bios has to support booting from a usb / firewire device (or however the hdd is externally connected)

wich is rare.

Umm, I play the following games at highest detail on my Vista laptop with hardly any FPS problems: HaloPC\CE, Joint Task Force, GRAW, SimCity 3000, ST:Legacy, and a bunch of unknown-to-most-people games.

All the applications that I used on my Win2K machine work fine in Vista. I can't stand using WinXP on my main machines (note, its just because I don't like it). I don't know what the fuck your talking about, where the hell you got those statistics for the games or the FPS (asshole most likely). Probably just regurgitated propaganda.

My laptop isn't even top of the line compared to whats out there. But it is the best MacBook Pro you can get

Isn't there anyway to view screenshots without the UberScreenshotTool? It would make it a lot easier for Vista users.

Just saying that games now probably would run better on a WinXp machine than a Vista machine since it's obvious that vista will designate more resources to itself than WinXP would, therefore allowing more resources for programs.

However, I'm sure that games in the future will be designed to require Vista(a la Halo 2 PC) and so we'll have to get vista to run those games at all.

Also, people like to exaggerate for emphasis on points they're trying to make... :P .

Anyway, this is Offtopic. I was in a ranty mood for the first post. Sorry bout that.
