Year Zero

Post by shadowkhas »

Anyone here heard of Year Zero? It's a cool viral marketing campaign done by the same people who did ILoveBees, and it's promoting Nine Inch Nails' new album.

This alone is making me want to buy it. Marketing worked on me. :(
Discuss.

I am sick of NIN's vocals.

I like their songs and such, but their newest stuff has been pretty...meh.

Same thing as every other band...their old stuff is better in my opinion.

I'd say the opposite. Their lyrics always felt contrived to me. It just sounds like Trent Reznor wants to sound like a dark and tortured soul.
I've grown to not like really any of their stuff because of it too.
Instrumentally, I think they're pretty good.

As far as a viral marketing campaign? Absoludicrous. It doesn't sound like a successful way to get new listeners, and really just goes to show Reznor is at the bottom of the barrel for lyrical content, if the songs have anything to do with this.

I love NIN through and through, I was raised off their music. I have almost every single NIN album out there, and love every single one of them. With Teeth wasn't that great, but I am really liking the sound of the Year Zero album. I plan on going to the listening party hosted in Salt Lake City on the 11th.

Before recording With Teeth, Trent said himself that once he doesn't feel like Nine Inch Nails any longer, he will quit. The guy is 42 for god sakes, he's been through drug addictions and such, the guy's soul is tortured. He's still pretty confused with himself, but I'm glad he's recording stuff again.

I would also like to add that Nine Inch Nails have always adapted to the new styles of music. Their sound always changes according to the time that album was released in.

If anything does come up that day, no way am I going to pay attention to it.

I love the hype they've got going here, I've never heard of a little conspiracy on a music album-just games.

BUUUUUUUUUMP.

CD came out today, thought that warranted some more discussion on it. I must say I am rather impressed by it. I haven't bothered to rip the songs to my computer yet, but apparently when you do, the CD changes colors. O_o

Very cool in my opinion. Anyway, Another Version of the Truth is the ultimate night driving song, the end. Thoughts on the CD anyone?

This album is pretty ghetto.

I liked the older NIN personally.

NO U.

The CD changing color is pretty awesome, it even works if you lightly breathe on it, since it's temperature activated. I got two copies of it today (keeping one sealed, already paid for it from a pre-order with JK-47), and a copy that I got at Hot Topic was only 10 bucks and it had a patch with it.
OH. And when I picked up my preorder from Graywhale, they gave me ANOTHER LITHOGRAPH, and this one is number 670, as opposed to my 8024 that I got at the listening party here in SLC.
I haven't listened to much of it yet, I'm going to do a whole listen-through with my friends on Saturday.

I listen to music on the heavy side, however "Everyday is exactly the same" got me because I like the lyrics to it. But thats really it.

I just really like how Year Zero is done. The integration of it into an ARG, and the storyline of it. What's even better is that the CD isn't all "FUCK BUUUUUUUUSH!" It's done in a way that comments on society right now, but not in a way that makes the music go to hell because of it.

Yeah, the only song that goes against Bush is Capitol G. But it also covers a wide area of ignorance.
I like how the album sounds, I love the lyrics, and I really like the ARG they set up, it's really interesting.

And that's not even explicitly against Bush. The capital G it represents is Greed, but it can be applied to Bush as well.

I feel that Capital G refers to 'Capital Gay', or, 'This Album'.

I thought it was kind of obvious when he said "he signs his name with a capital G" that it represented George Bush, not greed. =|

He says that G stands for Greed, but also works when applied to other political figures (read: President).
