AMI Results

Post by Guest »

Well, AMI was today from 7:15 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
What is AMI you ask?
AMI is the ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Annual Military Inspection. Someone from the Navy comes down and inspects the whole unit, and if we do horribly, ROTC closes down, if we do magnificent, we are elligable for Achievement Unit, which offers a ribbon to wear on the uniform(which I have, along with a bronze star, meaning I have more than one).

Anyway,
we were stressed for months about AMI, I was told to be the 4th platoon commander. The thing is, I didn't meet my whole platoon until yesterday at 7:45 A.M. for the AMI practice, so I had no clue who knew what about marching and knowledge of the Chain of Command and Orders of the Sentry.

It was a mess.

Yesterday my platoon was the worst platoon in the whole unit. They screwed up so many times as I was marching them. We were obviously on the verge for 0% Honor Platoon.

Today, we started AMI and I was nervous as hell, we went through the implace drill and inspection, and I received a Circle 10 award(medal for a perfect uniform.. and then some, can be hard to acheive). Afterwards we marched out to the parking lot and we began the marching movements along with Pass-and-Review, which is a hand saulte while marching by the inspecting officer and other on-lookers.

Anyway,
1st platoon went. They did excellent.
2nd platoon went. They did pretty good, but the PC (platoon commander) cracked under the pressure and she began to cry.
3rd platoon went. They did excellent.

At this point I was afraid, afraid and nervous that I would not acheive the Honor Platoon award, infact I was pretty bent on the fact we wouldnt get it from the practice we had the day before.

4th platoon(us) went. In my opinion we did pretty good.

To my amazement, my platoon shaped up! Did that speech amp them up? or was it the thought of the pizza and donuts after AMI that made them want to acheive that party? Perhaps they wanted to show the rest of the platoon's whos boss? Whatever it was, they did EXCELLENT.

After Pass-and-Review, we went to the auditorium, and had the award ceremony.

Circle 10's went up, we were handed our medals and a congradulations.

The inspecting officer from Navy then gave a sudden speech about the statistics for honor platoon, I'll sum it up a little bit:

"1st platoon did excellent, in fact, they made it hard for us to judge the honor platoon awards, they were about 1/10th behind the actual Honor Platoon, which is extremely close!"

So in my mind, I though, well, 3rd platoon must have gotten it then.

"The Honor Platoon of this unit did good overall, inspection, drills, commands, etc. and the Honor Platoon is..."

"4th Platoon!"

My whole platoon went wide eyed, and we all gasped in astonishment at the same time.

So they called us up, and we received our Honor Platoon merritt for the guide on flag, which stays until time ends. I can look at that guide on flag with pride now. I will receive a medal for aquiring the award in a few weeks (they have to order the ammount for my platoon).

To sum it all up:
I received a circle 10 for a more than perfect uniform (what they call it)
and I received the Honor Platoon award with the merritt and medal.

Afterwards, we had our party, everyone in the unit came up to me and congradulated me. I was man of the day today, even the commanders from the Navy came up and congradulated me aswell!

I am very proud of my platoon and myself.

Couldn't really have it when the platoon performed "not-so-great" i guess I'll call it, during practice, and in this city, when people are like that, they usually stay like that. Plus I am sick, my arms were numb (it was 20 - 30 degrees outside and I dint have a jacket). Lol.

One of my friends is in ROTC, he's one of the Flight Commanders. Sounds pretty rough to be honest, especially for high school students.

Good work.

good work on that, doesn't sound easy to do, especially since the practice was a failure. congrats.
