A simple recolour

Post by rossmum »

Got bored, so I made this. Colours aren't perfect, but I think that adds to the authenticity a little... most WWII-era recolours were a little odd-looking.

After a half hour or so of mucking around in PS7:

I'm sorry, it just doesn't look like you tried that hard. The edges aren't that great and it doesn't look like you spent any time making sure the colors were correct at all, not to mention flow correctly. The darkness of the lower regions of the MG42 were destroyed since you didn't bother to add some sort of gradient mask to the color change. It looks like an easily identifiable photoshop. True recolors shouldn't be noticeable at all.

Nice job with the helmet and the ground though.

Not sure about some of the colours, but I know that the MG42 stock and the uniform are pretty much spot on. MG42 stocks were bakelite and faded to a dull red-brown after a lot of use.

The edges need work, I know. I rushed the ground and as such the MG42 didn't turn out great either.

As for the gradients, thanks - I'll keep that in mind.
