Meh, it wasn't that bad.. just the media over exaggerating things again...
Someone who knows there stuff.. wrote:Actually if the root dns servers when down we would be largely uneffected for quite a while. You would not be able to register new domain names but the beauty of the DNS system is that the namespace is actually cached on 1000s of DNS servers around the world. If they fail to get updates from the root they will simply continue to feed from their cached copy of the database. In addition if they were all taken out, I believe they have the ability to simply promote different dns servers with a good copy of the database to a root position.

Now I'm not saying that this isn't a big deal because it is but the internet is designed to route around problems. That includes a complete failure of all root DNS servers.

The exception to this is that there are some ISPs who do not setup their dns servers properly. They feed directly from the root servers instead of from another server upstream from them. If they do not have the options on their dns server setup properly, then a loss of the root servers could have an impact on those ISPs and their customers.

Anyway, don't panic. There isn't a single point of failure. Except perhaps digg. If digg went down civilization WOULD end. Really... it would...

if somenoe says they're a hacker, that doesn't mean they've done anything illegal at all. sure, macsforever said he found tracking cookies on khas's pc, but do you think he actually did? did khas say he actually have proof macsforever logged into his pc without permission? as far as i've seen, no

hackers aren't the people that steal credit cards numbers, those are the black hats, the crackers, and they're just cyber criminals. hacker skills plus bad morals. hackers are the people that make modchips for consoles, or dissect a program to learn how it works and how to get the most out of it (see: halo modding). hackers don't have to know a ton about pc security to be a hacker, a hacker is anyone with tech skills, like programming, or physical hardware. even someone that thinks outside the box could be considered a hacker (see lifehacker.com).

i consider myself a hacker, BUT WAIT. before you judge me by what the media spoonfeeds you,
look at this. I wrote that myself using techniques i learned and read about, and i tested all of them, and know how they do what they do. then i posted it here so you guys can just read it and learn something, or use it at school to get to images.google.com to make it easier to get pictures for a school project, for example.

sorry for the long post, but before you go around pointing fingers and jumping to conclusions, get informed.

Even though that guy is gone now, him not knowing that hacking is seriously illegal, is like breaking into a house and stealing stuff. And according to State Law, You are Authorized to use lethal force by any means necessary if they are in your home.

In this case, I'm not willing to give the benefit of the doubt. When someone claims that they did something illegal to your property (multiple times on multiple forums), one tends to believe them...

I didn't lose respect for him due to his alleged actions... I lost respect for him because it was apparent he's an idiot.

i just filter them out, because they're usually lying, and macsforever might be an idiot, but i've only seen, like, 5 of his posts, so i can't tell.

Don't turn this into a flaming thread. I have talked out the problem with him; please keep posts related to the topic.

Can we ban MacsForever? I really don't like the idea of a hacker on our Forums.

EDIT: It does help to read the entire thread first.
