"I hate Macs"

Post by ScottyGEE »

I'm really digging myself in a whole in recent times, with threads and posts seemingly dedicated to how I dislike how Apple and their approaches certain things, like advertisements and hyperbolic descriptions (5 years ahead you say?)...But alas! it is inevitable. If not me then someone else ;)

Anyway, this article, whilst its name is about saying how they hate macs, I'm posting this because of the views expressed about the latest Mac ads...As I have said before, I think they are totally stupid and will not achieve a higher market share by insulting the supposed inferior machines that many people use in a hope to get people to buy them.

Enough of this rant, I like it because of the ad talk, here's the article:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... 31,00.html

:D
And no, before it gets onto a "omg ScottyGEE hates macs!" thing again, with all the defensive posts describing how they are indeed better, I don't care...Its not that I don't like them, I havent given them a chance, which I soon will be with leopard.

Most humerous is where he describes the one mouse button and how the ads should be more realistic :P

I hate macs as well. K-6 our Elementery school had all macs and 0, 0! PC's. Now In Junior High we finnaly have PC's and there much much better, we also have over 90 laptops. I hate macs for there simplicity, and the fact that they have like

"7"

Games. (Im making that from the Mac Gamer Video with Gus in it xD.

They also can't do 1/100 the things PC's can do.

well, if you are comparing performance of PC vs Mac based on school computers, of course you will find the Macs to be worse as no school computer lab has macs that are newer than the 680K Power-PC series. Not quite sure how you get off calling a Mac simple, as far as the OS goes, it's comparable to XP except it doesn't freeze up or Blue-Screen all the time. If you mean the awesome 'plug-n-play' (which is a term invented by Microsoft, Apple never felt a need to call it anything because their computers did it by default) I can only assume you to be a masochist because you would seem to be saying you enjoy having even the most basic of peripherals take half an hour for Windoze to recognize them.

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/
the main theme is shareware, and it kicks arse.

yeah, so maybe the big game companies don't spit out Apple versions of all their games, but event hat statement isn't entirely accurate, all the quake games are available for Mac OS, those Warcraft games everyone is ejaculating over have mac versions, HALO has a mac version, shit, Bungie was originally a Mac game producer until Microsoft ate them. and that's just what i could think of in the time it took me to type it out, browse around that link a while, you'll find a nice collection of games there. and if those aren't enough, guess what, you can install Windoze on a mac! all you really need is 40 gigs of NTFS partition and you can have your windoze games!

They also can't do 1/100 the things PC's can do.
I would ask you to substantiate that claim.

Umm, not really true. Out of years of having Microsoft OS's I have never had any problems. No blue screens or anything. And it does not not take nearly a half an hour to install a monitor, maybe a few minutes, tops.

I'm assuming you havent used XP before?

As long as you're not doing any real intensive things or complicated things, no, you shouldn't get the blue screen or anything...

As for the monitor, about 0 seconds should be sufficient no matter if you're using XP or OS X. Only time necissary is the actual plugging in of the DVI (or VGA for you old schoolers) cables..

Sure, some monitors are really weird and don't work for some reason using "plug-n-play", well, I don't know why that would be to be honest.. but it probably wouldn't work on a mac either.

OS X is a great operating system with a fantastic GUI, good built-in applications, and excellent security and reliability thanks to its Unix origins. I don't understand why people hate it so much.

i have run every version of windows except vista, my dektop is a Hewlette Packard, teh only apple i own is a MacBook Pro i recently puchased because i could never afford one before. my primary experience with Appls comes from my father's computers. I have never had an apple crash or hang unless i forced it to do something i knew it wouldn't do. I have found that windows 98/SE is far and away the most stable OS released by microsoft to date (discounting vista as it just came out and i have no experience with it yet, i'll give it two years and then judge it.) every other version of windows has given me buggers, no buggers that i couldn't fix mind you, but some pretty nasty ones at times. My HP (runs XP home) blue screens about once every two or three months assuming i am using it on a daily basis (which i haven't since i got the laptop) I also have an NTFS partition with XP on it on my laptop for my games, anda s long as teh OS doesn't give me buggers the apple hardware seems to handle the games BETTER than running the games at lower settings on comparable windoze boxes.

I, personally am a PC user. Every grade I've been in I've had to use Macs except for my technology class's PC's. It was always so boring sitting around waiting for my Mac to finally load that I lost all hope. I do understand that my school runs a caveman's Mac but come on... PC's are much more expensive, but I've always found them to appeal to me more. Yes, I've had viruses, but that's but of my own fault. I've also had my computer randomly reboot on me, but that stopped happening after the third week (It did it like once a week.) I think the last time I actually had the blue screen of death was when I was five running Windows '95. Now, when I say, "I hate Macs" I'm not really giving them a chance because I've never used one outside of school, but I doubt I'll ever really give them a chance because my PC is perfect for me. Heck, I even find it fun when I get to install a new video card or some piece of hardware (BTW, can you even change the hardware in a Mac, I've never seen anything you can do to upgrade them than buy an entirely new one.) I always hear of how Macs never get viruses, but isn't that only because nobody really wants to take the time to make one? You can't tell me some hackers can't make one. I also hear about how Macs look so much better than PC's, but those people have never actually seen some of the pretty kickass cases you can get with neon running through them for like $50.

The only times my computer ever has any problems is when I was 10+ Firefox windows open, am listening to music, and have Photoshop open while I play a video game, but thats just because I need more RAM. (I'm also too lazy to close the stuff I'm not using.) Now, about the cases, if your going to buy a computer just because it has a pretty case, you shouldn't be touching anything electronic in the first place. Sure Mac's have a nice and shiny GUI, but if you had bothered to use a PC for more then 10 minutes you would know you can use custom made themes for Windows, in fact, I think they might have one that is based off the Mac skin. What bothers me about these debates, is that Mac users always say things like, "Macs are better for graphics." Or, "Macs are better for music." If you're going to make claims like that, please describe to us why they are better for those things, and if you don't know why, don't say they are better for it. Fact is, that alot of people say Macs are better for those things because the programs Macs come with. My question is; if you really want to do say music, or movie editing for a living, wouldn't you buy 3rd party programs to do it rather then what Macs come with? I would be much happier if Apple gave their consumers a choice on whether they wanted to buy all that pre-built software or not.

That's very inacurate and false. The hardware is basicly THE SAME (intel macs), just different software. Macs can do 1/1 of the things PC's can do, but microsoft choses to make thier software for macs crash alot. The game designers choose microsoft because they're used to it, not because it's better. Apple came late in the market so they have less attention-> less apps-> less games.

I hate PC's because they get f***ed up easily. EX: BlueScreenOfDeath, viruses, crashes whole computer (not just one app), slow, noisey, and verry bad UI, you need a software update every week (due to security problems), and is a loud machine.
compare to macs:
Great UI, never crashes/freeses computer (unless you screw it up), fast hardware, fast software, great security (due to unix base), NO VIRUSES, great apps (like imovie, itunes, and dashboard). If apple didn't exist, there would be no ipod and there would be cd players instead.
