Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Not Working

Post by gh0570fchurch »

Okay, the original HL2 works just fine, but when I try to run Episode 1, it goes to the loading screen (the one that you see before the game actually starts). It goes about halfway through that load screen and just stops. I left it there for about half an hour and no progress. I tried deleting local content from Steam and re-downloading the whole thing but that didn't work. :|

i lol'd at the lack of knowlege.

Delete Client Registry.blob, retry, and if all else fails, check the requirements in the manual and see if it syncs up, or surpasses it. Sometimes if you check Steam's support page, they will show issues with certain drivers/hardware.

Well, I thought it would have the same requirements as the original HL2, but I'll check that.

EDIT: okay, the game manual had a link to fix using msconfig. Did what it said, and restarted. Re-downloading everything now. Should take another 30 min-1 hr.

EDIT2: Re-downloaded and tried it. Got the same screen as before. It gets about 2/3 of the way through the load screen and just stopped. Had to crash the game to get out of it.

go to steampowered.com and click the support link at the top and see if you can solve the problem there. either that, or check their forums.

Well, I don't think it's a Source-engine crash, since the other Source games work just fine (i.e. CSS, DoD:S, etc.)
