...why would you do that?I'm using a PC on my floor and a keyboard propped up on two cardboard boxes of different height.
Oh, Microsoft!
Another reason why Apple doesn't have a large number of viruses. The fact is most die-hard hackers would rather deal with simple x86 assembly than a more obfuscated, lower-level, RISC-based one such as powerpc...

Tech support for exchange server cost $249. They should not charge for something that should already be working.
Windows is ugly
Besides, if a mac can load windows, then why would you not want a mac? It's like saying "I want a PS3, but if it comes with a WII, then I don't want it."
Windows gets viruses
Setup requires technical skills.

- Opinion, not fact. Present the statement as such.
- There are countless reasons why that question is one of the most flawed in this thread.
- So can Macs. Not to mention we've discussed this. It's not like Windows just comes with a shit load of viruses, very few people even get viruses, and those who do generally deserve them due to their own incompetence and misunderstanding.
- So? If you have the skills, why does it matter?
- This has been addressed over and over.
Also, people. This is not a Mac vs. PC thread (Don't create one), this is a "Why do you dislike Microsoft?" thread. Stop comparing PCs to Macs!
If this keeps going as a Mac vs. PC thread, I'm locking it.

Here we go, I noticed this thread now.
Advantages of Microsoft:
1. Wide product base, leads to
2. More software
2a. More games. While my reason for getting a new computer (see sig if you haven't noticed already) isn't games (outdated hardware, if you must know), the gaming scene is a lot better and more fun for Windows. I mean, come on...BF 2142 freaking owns.
Why I dislike Microsoft:
1. IE integrated into the OS. I don't know if it's still like that in XP (haven't tried), but in Win98 and such, Internet Explorer was integrated into the OS and you could NOT remove it without damaging the OS. Anti-competitive much?
2. Try to make me feel stupider than I am. For example, in Windows Vista (RC1), the little security boxes that pop up are ANNOYING. Yes, I know that changing my user accounts might be dangerous, Microsoft, but when I'm fiddling in my Control Panel, have what OS X (technically, UNIX in general) does. When you do anything that needs authentication from the Superuser or Root level, that authentication STAYS for five minutes. Much better than totally graying out my screen and bringing up a dialog box every three seconds.
3. Aesthetics and consistency in the OS level. Yes, I know Apple is guilty of this as well, but I'm not saying they're not. Consistency bugs me. When my OS is blue and green with shiny highlights, the browser (IE 7) is a light blue, and the media player (WMP 11) is a dark black, I have NO idea where the GUI is going. Call me crazy, but I like consistent themes. >_<
And that's done. If anyone wants to actually have a serious, decent discussion about Apple vs. Microsoft, we need to get on #halomods or #hmc IRC. :O

You used Vista RC 1, it has since changed. Don't complain about an unfinished product.
Also, you complain about WMP11 and IE, yet they're seperate software packages. That's like saying every program ever made must fit the windows GUI... I don't see that working.
And if you had a proper RTM version of Vista, WMP11 and IE7 blend perfectly into the GUI.

I'm not saying it was a finished product, I'm saying it was RC1 for that precise reason, that it isn't finished. However, I'm quite sure that that feature hasn't changed.iGeo wrote:You used Vista RC 1, it has since changed. Don't complain about an unfinished product.

IE and WMP should blend in to the OS. They're made by Microsoft, and they should have a level of consistency with themselves. It's kinda like the preview of OS X Leopard; it's all messed up. Time Machine has a black UI, the iPrograms are gray gradientized, and the Finder is metal. Nobody has any clue what anything is anywhere. XD

Windows is SO ugly. Maybe you should change the topic to Macs vs Windows.

I don't see how windows is guly anyway...And at least you can customise it the way you want. Bah...This is hardly the topic I intended (well with some people anyway)Tural wrote:This is not a Mac vs. PC thread (Don't create one), this is a "Why do you dislike Microsoft?" thread. Probably have to lock this soon Tural (not yet, give it just another day to try and float back on topic)
Which is why you dislike MICROSOFT not "give me your reasons as to why windows looks bad"
As I've said previously (or thought I had) people claim they don't want a zune because its "M$" or a 360 coz its "M$" WHY!?!?!?! (If only I had an interrobang on my keyboard)

The only concern I have with microsoft is the need to update constantly, and the numerous errors in the system. say I install a video card on a windows XP OS... I ut it in manually and boot it up with the installation disk, now instead of using the drivers pre-installed microsoft XP like to play the "hey lets check the internet for drivers made by us that will crash teh comp lol!" so I get the wrong drivers and spend an hour and a half with a techy who has about as much experiance in communicating as a whale trying to solve complex algorithms. So I end up re-installing drivers with the Proper Nvidia ones and realize I could've jsut put the Nvidia disk back in and Re-installed.
Having this problem and "non-compatibility" issues sometimes pisses me off. But I managed to get it working and I'mm unsure if I'd have the same issue on a Mac. Otherwise Microsoft is just fine, and with the right anti-virus program it's quite secure despite what people may think. Lay off teh Pr0n and it'll probably be virus-free.
