I have really old Yamaha speakers (basic setup: left, right, sub). They actually came with my families first computer, and we didn'y wanna blow 300 additino dollars (on top of the XPS we just bought) so we used the old ones. In case you're wondering I can't tell the differnce between my friends new ones and mine.
Headphones which are $80 which is probably around 50 for you guys... But they are old now...And they dislike bass now (I overdid it and made bass go crackly )...
I'm getting some vmoda bass earphones for christmas
I also have my own sony speakers...Very nice...They don't have the bass "thump" but it has alot of bass.

Huh? I figured yours would be pretty good since you did pay $30 for it but I just wouldn't spend that much money on something like that so I got mine for $10. I know I'm cheap. =P
well it really depends on how you like your music and sound...as you said if you can listen to it your satisfied...
I however like spending money on the stuff that gives great sound. I don't call myself an audiophile though, I just don't like crap... Not saying your $10 things are though

I ditched my old speakers and now just use my Logitech Gaming headset. Very awesome sound quality. I was planning to get a set of small Bose Desk speakers and a splitter to complement my headphones, because instead of being sealed, they're open eared, for "Ventilation",so a lot of outside noise gets in. with a good set of speakers complementing it, it would be perfect.
