Game Project

Post by ExileLord »

I originally posted this on the users forums but I decided I'd post it here since we have a forum for it now. I've been working on a game for these past two to three weeks using C#. The game is in the style of a space shooter but you have the freedom of 360

That looks really good Exile. I'm horrible at programming... Recently I've started farting around with Flash + Actionscript, but I haven't really made a "fun" game yet.

I'll download and hopefully get around to playing it.

I saw the title, and saw "360" in the text and thought you were making a 360 game, way to get my hopes up :(:P

Good luck though, I hope it works for you, if I could help, I would. But I suck, so no. :)

I don't need any graphics at the moment guys, but thanks for the offers. I'm still doing work on the engine itself. It's not going to look pretty until most of the engine is done and DirectX is implemented. That's a far ways off. I would rather have suggestions for things to add or bugs to fix rather than contributions at this stage. This is still very early in development. I just thought some people might like it and would offer some insight. And of the people who left a comment, how many actually tried it out of curiosity?

I don't have .Netframeworks on this computer, so I can't play the game. I also can't tell from pictures. But, are there different astroid sizes?

If you have ever played a vertical scrolling shooter (the arcade ship kind), it will kind of be like that with 360 degrees.

All of the circles are just place holders right now. For example, the props will be things such as debris from destroyed enemies.

There will be different weapons in the game, which will be upgradeable by either picking up some booster thing or by credits of some kind. Not sure which one I'm going with.

After killing so many enemies you'll face a boss of some kind, just like you would in a vertical scrolling shooter. After you kill the boss, you would go to the next level.

I found a bug, If you use the Physics gun, hold an asteroid and switch to Default gun, you can move away, but the asteroid stays still. If you switch back to the physics gun, you hold the asteroid again.

This game is great, it could possibly be the next linerider ^_^

I know why it's doing that. It's not turning off the hasFrozenProp and frozen property of the prop when the weapons are switched. I'll fix it in the next build.

it was good but you cant use your mouse to do anything else while you are playing, you should make a boundry for the game incase someone is trying to multitask.

Btw, fun thing: Hold both buttons at the same time, it pulls the ball in and then once it hits the push boundry it bounces away, also something cool would be to add powerups and other weapons

I am adding other weapons. Not sure on the idea of powerups though. Made some major changes to the game engine since the last build. I figured out how to do image transformations so I can now have sprites in the game.

Here's a screenshot I just took.

Also, if you were wondering what the hell those lines are on the ship, that's the ship's skeleton. That will be able to move just like how a human skeleton can move. I don't have any images for the ship though but here's a concept image of the ship to give you an idea of what it will look like.

Still looking for suggestions and comments.

So is this a type of game where you have an objective to meet? or do you just keep on going and going?

In my opinon there should my powerups, like health boosts and rapid fire...stuff like that.

I think it should be bigger. The screen is quite small for an Asteroids-like game. Good job so far.

It will have different resolutions the user can select. I'm going to work on having the camera zoom out later but I'm too lazy / busy to do that right now.
