The heightmaps you extract are incorrect.
It can't be fixed unless you plan on programming your own application to properly extract height/bump maps.

And by that comment, I take it you have something like that; It will never be shared right?

Right....anyways, its pretty easy if you know how to decompile files out of games - 2d data and 3d model data - reverse-engeneering basically, but you have to know how to read the data and how to code. Simple really.

*wonders how Gears of War will be set up*

So why does it matter to you if a tool isn't released, if you don't need it bad enough to make one?

Tural I never said I needed it, nor do I care about it, its simple enough to figure it out on my own.

And I was asking you a question Veegie, get over it.

You cared enough to make an off topic reply. Veegie is right. Back on topic now.

Technically it was still on-topic, figuring we were talking about height maps and tools and such, but ok.....back on topic please.

I use bumpmaps (heightmaps - not the in-game ones, I converted the normal maps) rather than normalmaps for my models, but they tend to look a lot more pixelated compared to other people's models using normalmaps... is there any way I can fix this without using normalmaps?

I'm not sure if this is quite on topic, but if I have the BSP file for a level, what can I use to convert it into a file I can put into my rendering engine?
I say old chap, I rather fancy a spot of golf.

After a long time without rendering on 3DS max, I am back with a free software :P Blender
I have been working on materials, i didn't pose the bones yet, i added bump details on the armor, best bullet impact shader...

Well you can't maybe help me with the software interface settings but you can also tell me what do you think about the material, too much reflection??
I used the h2 bumpmap of Jean-Luc,btw , thanks for this bump man :)

The visor material is bad, i have to work more on that.
