New toys in school

Post by dos mes »

This year, my school upgraded a little bit.

1. We now have a Plasma Cutter
2. We now have a 3d Printer for models.
3. New Dells with 19" Monitors
4. Tons of new little things.

Those are the only good things in school however :(

plasma cutter! sounds like fun, what class did they get it for? how long do you think until someone gets singed? and those new dells and the 3d printer sound awesome.

and even though i posted this somewhere else, my networking class has around $35,000 in equipment, so i think it's safe to say i'm going to be happy in that class.

Yea, I'm not sure what class the plasma cutter is for but something to do with engineering I think, so in later years I'll be able to use it because I'm taking a sequence of engineering classes. And in the classroom for DDP, on the wall is a like 50" monitor thing that you can touch and it shows whats on his computer so he can just teach like that, omg it's sexy...

Yea, they are used for like cutting steal really precise.

As for the 3d printer's they are exactly what they sound like. They will print out your model, and it comes out as a solid plastic material. I think it like layers this liquid or something, I honestly have no clue though...

If your serious, there are 2 types.
The first, older ones, make stuff out of sheets of paper. Slow and inefficient
Then there are the new kind, which "print" stuff with "sheets" of plastic. They usually use color plastics, or, the more expensive models actually paint them.

If you've seen Jurassic Park (3?), you see one being used to make the noise box on a raptor.

3d printers are also known as rapid prototypers because they can be used to make prototypes of a product quickly and efficiently.

I think smartboards are a waste of money. But I think it is because I went to a school that used them only because they had money. They were not useful and only a distraction. To me they were like flushing my parents hard earned money down the drain for eye candy nobody needed.

Ooo they are so cool :D I got to go to the college to check out the engineering classes they have. They make a model in the computer and they have a little thing that will etch some stuff into plastic, or they ahve this stuff that will melt wax into the model you made. Its pretty cool :)

And meh, Ive used a plasmacutter before, it isnt that entertaining.

With my dad working with AV and stuff, I see all that stuff roll through. Some of it I get to use. Like Right Now, I got 3 17 inch Viewsonic VX715 monitors sitting in my room :P

Smartboards have been around for a while now, They use Tablets and projectors now at my dad's office.
