Tutorial on Extraction and Rebuilding!

Post by Z1 RaR »

If noone was clear on this thing. (I know I was confused as shit..) I made a tutorial for n00bs, in terms they might understand. (Seeing as I am one..)
Okay, here goes...
1). Open up HMTv3
2). Open up a SP map, we'll use Silent Cart.
3). Tools, then Batch Extract. (Put it in a folder somewhere in your Halo directory, I call mine Batch Extract stuff)
4). I batch extract everything because I'm going to use the sounds and stuff for my mods..., But all you need to do is Batch Extract Metadata and models.
5). This will take a while so go get something to eat.
6). After it's done close Silent Cart. and open up the map you intend to mod, I always do BG because it's a small map.
7). Batch Extract it to the same file as where you extracted the SP map
8.). Now that's done put a copy of your original Blood Gulch (or whatever map you're using) in the batch extract file.
9). Now choose Tools, Rebuild Map with HMT.
10). In the box where it says Original Map, select the map in the Extraction Directory
11). It'll ask for autofill, click yes.
12). Okay, now go to Additional Files and click add. Go to Characters, Grunt, grunt.bipd.meta and grunt.mod2.meta
13). Click build and wait for it to finish.
14). After it's done goto the Batch Extract Directory and right click on the file called (mapname).map.rebuild.map and rename it to (whatevermapis).map
15). Now move it to your Halo Maps directory.
If you want to play as a Grunt on whatever map you just rebuilt, go to HMTv3, Bipeds, select cyborg_mp, then click swap and select grunt. Click save and you're done.
This should clear anything up with anyone...

wow, that was a very nice tut, but do noobs really have need for map rebuilding? at least now they'll find out that they're still too stupid to map rebuild... and for that I *clapzorz* :D

When it came to Hex, I was an idiot. I enter the offset of the AR (example) and put in the offset of the RL in its place...:(

yeah, but this comes up with problems like

1. what texture do you overwrite? it has to be one that isn't used.

2. there is a possibility of fucking up the texture... it's best to try and find one that has a similar size.

Nice tutorial! I'm still having some problems with map rebuilding, though. Whenever I rebuild a map, the rebuilt map file ends up being 10 times the size of the origional map file (even when I don't add additional files). I'm using the trial version of Halo if that makes a difference. Does anyone know what the hell that I'm doing wrong?
