1. Get your grammar straight.
2. I know that what I am about to say will make me the most hated thing in the universe, but...

Download blender; it is completely free. It is better than milkshape, but good for beginners.

Go to www.blender.org and find where the downloads are and download for your operating system (probably windows).

You would be if nothing else lost with Gmax, 3DS Max, and Photoshop CS2.

Go to this site and start studying to hell.

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro

Get The GIMP. It is free and also one of the better programs for what you will be doing (although may I suggest first studying modeling).

www.thegimp.org

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but I'm just trying to help out a fellow beginner.

P.S. Learning blender is only the first step. But it will help with what you want to do.

If you need help:

Ugh..

Yes, blender is like Gmax, which is like 3DS Max, which is like milkshape because they are all 3D modelers. Blender is just a modeler for beginners.

As I said concentrate on learning the basics.

Your trying to create a map. You first need basics. I gave you the wikibook. Do the excersises in the wikibook about ten times. When you are done go to the tutorials section of halomods.com and there you will see video tutorials for HEK (halo editing kit).

You don't need GIMP right away. That is when your making the map and need textures.

just get the 30 day trial of CS2 from adobe's site, (www.adobe.com) and Gmax is basically a simplified 3DS with no rendering capabilities,(unless you got some plugins.) As for your Brother Downloading 3Ds without your knowing would be impossible. 3DS in itself is a VERY big program. It would take at least a day to fully download, and would lag every online program you have.

Heres a list of programs that you can use for cheap/free legally.

Gmax,
GIMP,
and the 30 day CS2.

Get banned from halomods.
not to be of a nuisance, but how is that illegal and supporting illegal usage of it if gmax was a free version of 3ds basically with less components that was put out there by the company that made 3ds.

$7000? where do you get that!
The Autodesk suggested retail price for 3ds Max 9 software is US $3,495.
I got 3ds max 8 for only $600 for the educational version *actual price was $3000*
