I was on XBC today and when I didn't have the mappack (which I do have the disc) They told me the mappack doesnt have to be installed on your HD, which is impossible with the regular xbox HD, you can ONLY fit Halo 2 on it, and not the mappack...but he said you can if you like FTP them or something...

Is this possible? Because right now, I am trying to download the killtrocity mappack to put on my xbox, with its regular harddrive...But would this be impossible?

To put the map packs and Halo 2 on an original Xbox HD you can't have the single player maps in there or it won't fit very well. The best thing to do is leave out:
/bink/
>credits_60.bik
/maps/
>00a_introduction.map
>01a_...
>01b_...
>03a_...
>03b_...
>04a_...
>04b_...
>05a_...
>05b_...
>06a_...
>06b_...
>07a_...
>07b_...
>08a_...
>08b_...
>single_player_shared.map

This will save you the most space, but you won't have the single player maps. I sugest you try to upgrade your HD. It is well worth it.

So basically the good news is, I can use the mappack, and if I want to play campaign, i just have to boot from the disc, and the bad news is, i just cant play campaign from the HD....Basically?
