Basic animation question.

Basic animation question.

Hi there. I am trying to make a simple animation for a movie I'm making, but I got stuck.

I found the cool tutorial on 3rd person custom animation by cmndr resuvour and followed his steps and was able to create, export, and compile my animation. Only thing is, I don't know how to get it into the game.

Basically, I'm not trying to make my own map, I just want the Master Chief character to do a very simple motion when I hit the melee attack (or any other action, I just figured that was a good one to do).

So I've got the cyborg_MP.biped file with the new animations included, and now need to figure out how to get that into a multiplayer map (let's say Death Island for the hell of it).

Can I do that? And if so, how?

Being the maker of the tutorial you have just mentioned, compiling the map file with tool will replace any original animations for that map. If this is not the case, would you mind putting some details in so I may know exactilly what it is that you are doing.

Sure, I'll try to give some details.

Ok, so honestly I know very little about this whole process.

So here's what I'm trying to do. I want to make this movie, and in this movie I want to have a character do a custom animation (raise his arms, as if he's greeting the sun right?).

So I found your tutorial on 3rd person animations (sorry about screwing up your name by the way in my earlier post) and it seemed like just what I needed.

So I followed the steps in your tutorial, and made my simple animation, and exported it, and went to tool, and ran tool, and went to guerilla and swapped the animation models and everything looked like it did on your screen in your tutorial.

So basically I need to take that animation that I made, and put it into the game.

As I've looked into this a bit more it seems to be that maybe what I'm trying to do can't be done stand-a-lone you know? I mean, you said that "compiling the map file with tool will replace any original animations for that map". See, I don't really know what you mean by that. I'm not sure what map file I need to compile. I thought that after using tool I was left with a compiled animation model tag (if there is such a thing). If that in turn needs to be compiled into a map, then I need to figure out how to do that.

So, to summarize: I want to know if it's possible to create a custom 3rd person animation that can be injected so to speak into an existing map (like death island)?

Can I create my own animation to be used in multiplayer without creating a whole new map?
