If a 1.5 GB mod host were available to you (to keep some load off of halomods bandwidth) would you use it?

Make a poll for it, to keep track of votes...
It depends if I would use it.
If it's a friendly site, without many popup ads, and recommended by most users, I would use it.

I despise pop-up ads...The most I would have is google AdSense.. as long as it generates the same amount i need to pay the server...lol

1.5 giga is nothing with this much users. HaloMods probably has like 1500 gb per month bandwidth

ftp? dont. it'll take way too long to do uploads... tho we do need a server specifically for entire map uploading, Gren could sure use it :?

FTP would be bad due to that uploaders would have to have a user account...if anonymous they wouldnt be able to prove it was their mod...No, Im thinking of using either a forum like PHPBB for uploads, possibly a CMS, like MAMBO...or just a web-interface type upload. And if the 1.5 is full, I'll upgrade and get more space..That's no problem...

yes, I think a phpBB server would be better. especially if it had 10 gigs...

talk to Gren about it. he's the person to talk to.

i think it would be good... I assume you mean 1.5gigs space, not bandwidth. 1.5 gigs bandwidth can go fast even on a small site without downloads.

I think that a filesystem would work alot better than a phpbb forum with phpbb's attachment mod, as people wouldn't spam as much. There are many PHP scripts that let users upload files and make comments on.

I did mean 1.5 GB disk space, but that is only initially...for the first month or so to see if more will be needed..otherwise I could get another 30 gb disk space for ~20 bucks easily...

Also,
I was looking at some alternatives to PHPBB forum based posting...
Check this out...
http://www.mamboserver.com/
Easy to manage and set up...orgranized by categories etc...Almost fully customizable...

Mambo does have forum features that are similiar to PHPBB but its different, here you can see a site that offers downloads via MAMBO:

http://www.mamboportal.com/
The front page has the top downloads on it, the latest forum posts (if the forum is active) and the news...

If anything, I would probably go with either MAMBO or a web-interface...Leaning more towards mambo atm, I guess...
