[WIP]M1 30 cal. Carbine

Post by Doctor »

I've been practicing and practicing for so long without posting, now here it is. Notice the [WIP] in the topic name; work in progress. I'm thinking kinda like this:

I tried to mostly box/plane model.

About 5,000 polygons, but I do have the extra to clips and some extra things.

Raw model, raw model, raw model,
Detail, detail, detail
Clean up the wireframe and do some poly chopping
Skin, skin, skin.

About 3 days, mb 3-4 hours a day. Don't worry, I've been staying up like 16 hours a day, so It is only like a fourth of my time.

No smooths yet either

And the messy wireframe because I know people will ask:

To be honest... ack. It's basically a chamfered box, you need to work on the shape a lot. And 5000 polies for that thing... uuuugh.

Are you using reference pics? Because the shape's off...

^^^^i agree. it looks way too boxy (although i cant say my models are any less boxy, lol)and like rossum said, the shape IS off. the m1 carbine and m1 garand happen to be two of my fav weps, :p. anyway, the clip is a tad large for that. unless its supposed to be an extended clip, make it a little smaller.

Looking at it again... it basically is a chamfered box...

Find some refs and use them, and don't use like 50 sided cylinders. I could make a more detailed model of the M1 for less polies, and Snaf and Katarn could go even lower.

How do you make your stock? And I did a lot of vertice dragging also =/

I'm kind of a poly-whore. Be aware I just started modeling :?

Here are my refs:

I still need to do detail on the barrel.

I'd spline, chamfer and drag verts to make a stock, then boolean where necessary. And you need to follow the refs closer, you've gone a little off.

I know I went off at the barrel part, because I was in a rush to finish :D . Well, you guys will see next time. It'll be Snaf who?

Just kidding. Well, mb in my dreams.

Trigger guard is wrong shape, as is stock, to a degree. And you're modeling a regular M1, not an A1. See below. (A1 has folding stock)

Another A1:

I thought they were both A1... heh. On Call of Duty 2 it is an M1A1 and there is no folding stock :?

And this is my 2nd gun I've made, can I have a little slack?

Anyways, I've been doing some poly chopping and skinning, not done yet, the barrel really neads some detail.

Smooths are on. Here is the teaser picture:

3.5k polys + a sweet render (found some cool properties with this program)

TBH... I won't even say, I've already told you, I think it needs more work.

Next time, you use a ref in the viewport or I strangle you, mkay?
