making parts of an image transparent

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

making parts of an image transparent

Post by TomClancey »

i have a chain link fence picture, and i need the areas inbetween the chain links to be transparent. I tought i did it rite in Photoshop when i did the magic eraser and erased the areas inbetween so they were transparent in Photoshop, but how do i get it to shop up transparent in Gmax? Cus instead of me seeing black inbetween the links i see, white. Anyhelp regarding my probelm is appretiated.

Do you want it transparent ingame, or just in Gmax?

U have to save the file as a .pgn

And make sure the image is flatten when saving as .pgn

i tried that, and the image is still the same. I tried with the area in the links made transperent in photoshopm flattened it, saved as a png, like u said. When it was in Gmax it was stil white. But is that only for transperency ingame?

Create a new channel, make the parts you want to be see though black, and the part of the image you want to be seen white. Then save it as a .tif, compile it, in geurilla set the format to compressed with explicit alpha, and recompile the bitmap. Create a .shader_transparent_chicago, and add a map, then under map roation and mipmap bias, set ur bitmap, then ingame it should be tranparent.
