It had an arbitrarily convoluted plot. It was too complicated. It's not as though I couldn't follow it, as much as it never grabbed my attention. Halo 1 grabs your attention and pulls you into the story; Halo 1 has atmosphere. Halo 2 is just "Hey, wanna shoot stuff?"rossmum wrote:Ok, ok, so what the hell do people think is wrong with the single player? Would you all have preferred a regurgitation of Halo, but with better graphics?
Not to mention the texturing was just bleh. Metropolis was such a shoddy slap-some-textures-on job.
Cuda wrote:There was Hypothermia and The Wartorn Cove Series which had Lightning's and [gx]shadow's Amazing warthogs, the H2CE stuff, which was pretty cool(with kick*** Spraycan) and Hugeass.
Now that I think about it, I wouldn't consider coldsnaps revolutionary. I did before because the managed to make a biped vehicle. However, by revolutionary, I don't mean "a really cool map". I mean they actually impact gameplay in a major way. As far as I'm concerned, most "revolutionary" maps have only done things like add new vehicles and buggy dual wielding. And there have been plenty of revolutionary CE maps... and Coldsnap, TBH, is only barely one of them...
Essentially I'd like to see something that thinks outside the box or manages to do what's been established as impossible. I want to see a mod, not a map with some nice gimmicks.

I liked being able to see things from the Covenant perspective, although I do agree Halo's atmosphere was a lot of what made it so awesome.
That said, I still love Halo 2's campaign, because it brought a lot of interesting new stuff to the story, and cool things to do like play as the Arbiter and see what it's like on the other side of the fence.

my 2c on the atmosphere thing: it's like in 343 guilty spark. the very first time you played that, it was freaky. even more so if you first played it at night in a dark room with the sound turned up (me). but the flood levels in halo 2, although they were scary, didn't have the atmosphere of 343gs.
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>

Yeah in H2 there was nothing that surprised you, same thing, you fight the covenant, you fight them more, oh wow the flood, oh noes there gonna activate halo, the end.
I liked playing as Arbiter, but the levels are sickly boaring. I only play the Earth levels then I either turn it off or play XBL. And the only weapons I liked on H2 were: Battlerifle, Beamrifle, and the Bruteshot.
And the autoaim bugs me too, its rediculous, can we just play the game with skill please?
Other than that H2 is a pretty cool game.

There should be a next to impossible mission that you need to complete as a marine commander or just a plain marine grunt. No shields, you're going to have to rely on skill to escape. It'd be more of a recon/stealth mission than fighting. Maybe a couple of these instead of an arbiter. Maybe a medic would be with you to heal you too. I don't know, just an idea instead of the usual "OMG i want 2 b a gurnt lol" stuff..

First of all its just Halo... not halo 1
Halo: There were only like 5-25 elites to kill per level , and when you did face them, it was scary and they were fricking tough to beat.
Halo 2: elites were every where atleast up to 100 in some maps... and there easy to kill, they not as sneaky as they were in halo, like they would wait and jump you ffrom the side but in halo 2 the come running up you.
Elites in from halo were tougher to beat than the Hunters from halo 2.

Not removing this 'till I get back. Leaving on [01/05/09]
Yeah I agree. I played Halo 1 on legendary, and I simply could not kill some Elites. They were often the one cause of failure for beating the majority of the maps I tried. Halo 2? spetffh, there really weren't any individual challenges that were a huge problem on any difficulty. I'd play Halo 1 on Heroic, and I'd charge into a group of grunts and an elite, the grunts would all fall dead but it'd take a bit to take down the elite, and I'd often be out of shields.
Halo 2, you don't even realize you've killed an elite sometimes. They really aren't that big of a challenge half the time. Elite? More like glorified grunt...

Getting within melee range of an Elite on Halo 2 is suicide, actually.
And 5-25 per level on Halo? Get out, more like up to 50, and only slightly more on Halo 2.
I'd say Halo 2 is a lot harder. The Grunts are still pathetically weak and stupid, but in packs with portable guns they can cause major hurt. The Elites are smarter and actually make better use of cover and in some cases are insanely strong, the Jackals are about the same and they have snipers who totally own on Heroic or Legendary. Brutes are incredibly tough enemies, and Drones are really hard to hit with most guns because they're so fast, and they hurt in packs. And Hunters are useless in Halo, I've killed pairs of Hunters in Halo on Legendary in 2 shots (one each) with no damage, but been absolutely whooped by them in Halo 2. And the battle rifle and pistol are exactly the same weapon in terms of range, power, etc... they just look different and one fires in bursts. But notice it fires 12 bursts per magazine, and it takes 3-4 to kill on a headshot... Same as the pistol. So technically the pistol is in Halo 2. And the SMG is basically a slightly weaker, dual-wieldable AR. Go back and play both games, because some of you are clearly confused, or just stupid enough to try take on Hunters with a plasma pistol in Halo 1...
I agree on the autoaim though, that was just stupid. I suspect it was done to try balance Live out a bit, but... ugh.

What are you talking about? The Halo rings were NEVER weapons to the Covenant. Go play the game again. The science of Kaboom wrote:and also it went down hill with the covies perspective changing from weapon to holy thing.
