I like older Simpsons episodes much more than Family Guy.
The "random" (yet entirely predictable) clip bits of the show have gotten incredibly stale for me. But just about anything beats newer simpsons episodes.
Simpsons seasons 1-9 > Family Guy

My opinion: Family guy and The Simpsons are both awesome.

About the random jokes in family guy: I suspect that the reason some of their jokes don't relevate to the plot is because they saw how other comedys' jokes were limited to telling jokes that were realevant to the plot, and they wanted to tell jokes about things like the movies or politics, and other things that the episode's plot wasn't about.

And for the new episodes of the simpsons: The new episodes are great, I personally think there is nothing wrong with them, they aren't perfect though. Can someone explain why the new episodes of the Simspsons seem un-pleasant to some people?

seems like stale ideas to me, like they've started to run out of material and are starting to force their ideas now.
ASPARTAME: in your diet soda and artificial sweeteners. also, it's obviously completely safe. it's not like it will cause tumors or anything. >.>

They are just annoying and idiotic. Ive seen a couple of funny episodes, but all together, I think the show is a waste of time.

whoever said family guy is predictable is completely wrong. if you mean the plot, then yes, it is predictable. but just as much as the simpsons. why? because the shows would be crappy with a plot. as for jokes...in no way is family guy predictable. name ONE joke you saw coming. just one.

it's not that as much as:

oh, now there's going to be a random joke up here when peter says "i'm almost as [blank] as when I [verb] [celebrity]." or "this is like when [celebrity] [verb]ed [cast member]"

they're funny jokes, it's just you can see them coming.
