i would say doing both your ideas together, the texture and the bumpmap.
texture for the solid colour, and bumpmap to remove bumps.
(bumpmap either all white or all black, i am not sure wich will work best, i auctualy think all black will work because of old bumpmapping gone wrong experaments)

i didnt say null the bumpmap, i like snaku said to make it a solid white or black, as the bumpmap gives objects "bumps" such as the divits in the walls that Deerhake44 was talking about.
thats verry odd, what ver of the plugin? cos i have the nvidia .dds (latest) from Nvidia and it opens them just fine, and also, the things you want to make all black or all white are in the Alpha channel when you get it open.
i know it is posable to get rid of a bump map using the apps we have, i just dont remember what i did to acomplish this because i know i did it with the ghost before.
