Map Conversions

Post by Torq »

Hey all. I know that you are probably going to say that this is way too advanced for me, but I just gotta know. How the hell do you convert single player maps into multiplayer? I would appriciate any replies I can get.

this is way too advance for you.

lol seriously though it would take a very long time to figure out, like it did mono, and even then it would be quite complex, and you would have to either write you own programs to help you with this stuff, or somehow get a copy of mono's tools, but even then it would be quite difficult

Incorect, I don't know exactly how to do it, But once you know its not "extremely complex". It is on the other hand very complex to learn how to decompile the new bsp version in the halo .maps. Thats All I really know to say, Wish I knew more though.

The version of HMT that he released DID contain some, it not all, of the modifications he has in his version. Just it did not have tjc2k4 (I beleive that's his name) model stuff.

And I bet, being the nice person he is, that if you asked nicely, Mono would probably help you with map conversion. But he also did say in the same topic that about 1% of everyone on HaloMods would even understand it.

I know pretty much how to do it. I'm writing a tut how.. But. You know how it takes like a month to do? You have to transport every tag to the level in a Hex Editor. It takes a long time to do. Then. Your only like 15% done when u finished that part...

Edit - Also. You do not open the map in gmax and cut out everything. While your transprting tags you replace Chirons one bsp with the one you want from another map and put that in Hex Editor

-=]-[EX=, shut up. (After your spamness, I look at you as a stupid spammer. Stupid spammers get no respect whatsoever from me.)

What staticx57 said is completely true. What -=]-[EX= said is completely untrue. Mono simply took the specific BSP mesh and all from the Library level (For the Library MP mod, at least.) and replaced that of Chiron with it. He didn't use any modeling programs or anything. For that, I believe he used his own version of HMT along with the grand daddy of Halo modding... Hex Workshop. Not to mention his brain, which is obviously something you aren't capable of doing, -=]-[EX=.

I'll go more into detail here, as I guessed on how Mono did it, and the person who is making parts of 343GS into a MP level told me that that was how he did it anyways...

Well, like I said, you'd first need to rebuild the MP map with all the Scenario files and BSP mesh from the SP map. Then, you'd somehow have to get rid of all the triggers in the map, which isn't something I personally know how to do. Then, you'd have to get rid of all the AI spawns in the map, and put the things in the map that you'd need in MP, such as MP equipment, etc., as normal items classified under "Weapons" in Sparkedit simply won't work in MP to my knowledge.

And, yes, Monoxide does have his own tools that he hasn't released to the public. Maybe one day if he decides to forever quit modding Halo, he may just turn over his version to us, or possibly the source code for it, which in turn could be quite as good, if not better, as there's tons of people out there who could do wonders with a program like this... they just need something to start out with, such as the source code in this particular case here.

he *did* release the source...

but anyway, yes Hex, you said everything incorrectly, and Static spoke correctly... and even if, nothing you do will redeem you. nothing.
