mirroring some polygons... how do i do that again?

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

mirroring some polygons... how do i do that again?

Post by [cc]z@nd! »

well, i'm making a five-seven model, and everything's goin ok. i got a nice reference pic and drew a line around the weapon to make an outline i can start from (excluding the slide, of course. i'm going to animate this :) ). i created a bunch of vertices to start from and made a tone of polygons.

i paid attention to detail, and kept everything as neat as i could. and thus, i have one side of the gun as i want it, so i'm going to try and use it to make the other side and join the together, but i forgot how to mirror polygons. i know you can, but i just can't figure out how to do it.

if it helps, it's currently and editable poly.

Ell you have to do the mirror option at the top or you can use the symetry modifier and you have to welt the polys in the middle together.

i'll look into that mirror button on the top. once i mirror it, i'll create polygons between the 2 sides, and the gun grip will be done. the only thing left will be the slide, barrel, and a skin

alright, mirrored fine & dandy, but now it's just 2 different objects instead of one, so i need to combine the original and the mirror inton one object before i can do anything... any ideas?

btw, here's a teaser render. imo, pretty sexy except for the shader group mishap (look at the bolts...). i never seem to get them to work quite right...

You have some ugly faces there, but its not bad so far. I think you have incorrectly predicted how some of the gometry will form. But keep working at it, its coming along.

yeah, i created vertices and then moved them up, so i guess i didn't move them the absolute perfect amount... but i tried fixing it, and it won't help for some reason...

anyways, how would i take 2 different objects and turn them into one? i need to use each different side's vertices to create new polys, but because they aren't the same object, i can't use vertices from each side at the same time.

line it up how you want it and attach the 2 together then either creat polygons between or weld vertices together

i've lined it up nice & fine, but i just don't know how to attach them. is there a certain button i press? or would i look around in object properties?

yeah its the attach button. Pick Element under Selection and on the edit geometry rollout it says attach press that then go on to your viewport and click on the object you want to connect.
