Scraping my old computer

Post by llamaboy772 »

Right now i have a dead computer setting in my closet. Its been in there for about a month and i got to do something about it!!! My old one has a 60 gig hard drive and a CD RW/DVD drive. Can i hook these up to my new computer? As far as everything else my old computer is a pile of crap.

If it still runs you can make it into a home server. This is good so you only have to share one computer and you can get access to your music, movies, word docs, etc.
Or you can just rip out the otha stuff and stick it in your new comp.

Your new comp should have 2 drives. If it has 2 don't put another one in.I would dlete the partition on the old harddrive and make a new one and use it as a second empty partition and fill it up with all the crap you have :D
...left for good

You should just be able to pop open you computer, and plug them in. If the old CD drive doesn't have an IDE cable (or whatever interface it is) you'll have to find one. But then you should just be able to plug it in, and plug in the 4 pin power connector from your PSU to it.

You should set up a Linux cluster and make a big Folding@Home rig or something.

As a matter of fact, here's a link to Parallel Knoppix for setting up temporary Linux clusters.

Keep the drive. Scrap everything else. Or you can do like what We did at our house, and use it as a Music/Movie server on a wireless network.
