lightmaps...fog... and other mumbo jumbo

I was trying to make BG really dark and foggy (for a use of a working mod... hopefully if i get some answers) and I heard that to make it darker I needed to edit the lightmaps and that the lightmaps for BG was levels\test\bloodgulch\bloodgulch.
So I imported it into PSP, desaturated it, darkened it, and saved it as DXT1. I then tried to import it back into Halo but it said the file was a different size and needed to be saved as DXT1, but it was DXT1 and how could it have changed size?
Second question is how do you get fog into a level and then mod it to make it thicker etc. I heard you need some kind of Fog Plugin for HMT, where can I get that?

Answers to these questions would higly interest me too. Please someone answer! :) One thing though latot....what's PSP? Photo Shop ____??? Or something else?

In order for the lightmaps to work, you must save them as "DXT1, 16bit 5:6:5" in the DDS plugin.

As for the fog plugin, I have it but I don't know where to get it online. Sorry, lol.

Oh, nevermind about the darkness, i got it now hehe.. thanks for the info...
But for the fog, could you send it to me over AIM or something please?

okay, there's a problem... what are the lightmaps? I darkened and desaturated the levels\test\bloodgulch\bloodgulch and nothing was darker?

I just PM-ed Walka asking him to post it in the Utilities forum. That should assure that we have a consistent place to find it in the future. Thanks for the temporary solution, GMP. :wink:

okay, so I got the fog plugin and I figured about the lightmaps> I just filled them with black, but with filling the lightmaps black it still isn't dark enough! How am I supposed to get darker than black!? It's not even half as dark as the Forest Gulch map! How am I supposed to get it that dark?

And onto a new occurence to me :? When I darkened the sky etc. for BG and then reinjected them back in, they come up like all fuzz in the game... any way I can get a darker sky without fuzzing up the place?

PSP is Jasc Paint Shop Pro...

anyway, just make it so the fog values (all three) are something around 2 or so. that should make it really dark.
