you can't really proove it's yours when you have bungie's model, either...so really, they still pwn you. mainly because your's doesn't have a skin & we don't know if you really made it... Nuff said.
i kinda feel that you didn't make it any better anyways. you need to add the details & stuff, not just round it off...on top of that, learn to skin a bit so it will actually look good ingame mb?
well, overall--it's an OK idea, just need to actualy try next time.

I made that thing from scratch, ask anyone from Halo 2 Source.
Oh, and Classic, tell me HOW Bungie's model looks better? It's messy, the smoothing is screwed, and it's just plain crap. Besides, if I took that cocking knob and lowered its polycount, the model would only be about 300 more than theirs. Look at all the horrible smoothing errors and blockyness on the pistol grip and stock... eww...
And like I said, Source engine... polycount won't be such an issue. Although I could cut that down for Halo CE.
Year 11 = no time to learn to plane model... I'm lucky to get 2 hours of spare time on a Sunday, let alone a weekday.
So, here's your proof I did this from scratch. Wires, top is mine, bottom is Bungie's. And the reason I made the knob so high poly is because I'm not just a game modding modeller, I model for the hell of it and try make my models look good even without a skin. as you can see, Bungie's looks terrible without all the fancy bumpmaps, normal maps, skins, etc. while mine still looks alright without. I could take it down further (brought it down from 360 polies on the knob to 120), but I really see little point. It's not hurting anyone.
And yes, plane modelling is a LOT cleaner, but it also sounds more time consuming. And I lack much of that right now. But if I do get any, I think I'll clean the faces up a bit, I could probably chop the count by about 200-ish if I tried.
