1.5 Pecabyte Hard drive

Post by jks »

Collosal storage corp. is researching and developing a 1.5 pecabyte hard drive (yes pecabytes, thats 1,500 terabytes or 1,500,000 gigabytes) they expect to be able to produce it in 5 years. The secret is using quantum computing to alter the state of an atom's electrons, thus giving you more than 2 possibilities for states of the electrons, we wont be stuck in binary computing anymore. now imagine how many programs that could hold...

Ok, Steam, and all of its apps is 5,550MB....

to GB is 5.4541015625... multiply that by 1,500,000...

= 8181152.34375.....

So that means that could hold roughly 8181152 different copies of Steam and its Applications...

Technically, the yottabyte is the biggest. i think it goes like this:

Bit: 1
Nybblet (i think that's 5 bits)
Byte:8 bits
Kilobyte:1000 bytes
Megabyte:1000 kilobytes
Gigabyte:1000 megabytes
Terabyte:1000 Gigabytes
Petabyte: 1000 Terabytes
Exabyte: 1000 Petabytes
Zettabyte:1000 Exabytes
Yottabyte:1000 Zettabytes

you could probably download the internet if you had a 500 Yottabyte HD :o

but then you'd need quad super processors with giant bus speeds and be able to process at least 6 Zettahertz each. now how would u keep that processing system cool? if you left it on pluto i think it would still overheat lol. very interesting topic

The internet only goes up to around 100 terrabytes. Still a pecabyte o_O IF it ever comes out then you'll have to be one rich bitch to buy it.
who wants to kill a marine?

I read about a server company that sells Petabyte arrays for ~$5 million. They're available now, but of course they're actually 2048 500GB drives in a massive array.
