How can i edit/delete the textmessages in Halo 2 ?

hi@all

i am searching for a way to edit or just delete the texmessages in Halo 2 because sometimes it's just too much info and i cant see anything because of all the messages!

i heard from a map which has modified messages like ("X got OwNeD by Y") and a complete different HUD.

first i tried to edit the messages but i dont have much experience in modding so i just tried to edit the messages directly in the map (foundation.map)

opened with a hexeditor
>search for TEXT (there are 2 options text and HEX(?)) "suicide" and replace with "XXXX"
>Replace All

then the hexeditor finds 5 entries and replaces them.

After that i resigned the map BUT i cant start the map (Could not load map...)

I tried the same with the hex values but it didnt work too...

How can delete the messages "X killed Y" or "X has taken the lead"

How can i edit the other messages ?
can anyone help me please ?

did you fix your encryption and resign the map first.

yes i did resign everytime before i ftp'ed the maps... (with samesig)

but what do you mean with "fix encryption" is that the same ?

has no one tried this before ?

Make sure what you're typing in isnt longer than the original set of words that you start at.

i already asked in 3 different forums... i was told that some pro's managed to change ALL text messages and there is a tutorial and a tool... do you have a link to that tool @xzodia ?

just to explain what i exactly did:

-copied the map "foundation.map" via ftp to my desktop

-made a backup ;o)

-opened the map with a hex editor

-there were 2 options to search TEXT or HEX... and the REPLACE WITH option

-searched for TEXT e.g (german translation) "SUICIDE" and replaced it with a word of exact the same lenght.

-found 4 entries (why 4?) and replaced them

-then resigned the map with "CH2R" and ftp it back to the box

----> "You could not load the map"

WHY ??

... please help!

can anyone als try if he can change anything??
or does anyone know where i can find a tutorial ?

Would this app work with a german pal version of Halo2, because i saw u can only change the englisch words^^

if i changed the strings (words) to what ever and save and fix , they are the same befor.....

How come that no one else ever tried to change the messages?

aren't they annoying especially when u play with 10+ player... i cant see nothing when all these messages come up?

Another idea would be just to lower the font size of the text messages ... would that be easier ?

any1 an idea?

Those messages are most likely unicode strings, try looking through the matg or mulg for something like [unic]mulitplayer messages and null it out

antman made a insolence plugin that lets you edit unicode strings like swap allys weapon or picked up battle rifle etc.

And you might want to try a map resigner app not one built in. Thats probably why it wont load. Just download like CMR or Encryptmatic.
