banshee and plasma skins

I am almost done with skinning a new containment but when i skinned the banshee only the insides were skinned and ive looked everywhere and cant find where i would skin the outer casing cause its still purple and the same goes for the plasma pistol can someone please tell me how to skin items.

the banshee skin in halo 2 is called plate or somthing

thanks but i know that i reskined the plates for the banshee and all it did was change the skin of the inside of the banshee. and i need help wiht the plasma pistol becasue it stays purple in some light but then the skin color slightly changes in diffeerent lights to what it is supposed to be but it is never always what it is supposed to be and when i saved them i chose the corect DXT format and i generated new mip maps so i dont understand . any help is appreciated thanks.
