Select it with the Magic Wand tool, and if it's not the background, hit delete. If it is the background, then go over to your eraser tool and behind that is your 'Background Eraser'. Use that within the selection and then save as a png or a gif. Png's are much better in most peoples opinion.

You should apply some different blending options. In this case, it would look best with a drop shadow and a bevel.
