The triathalon portion could just require 3 portions of the theme...One being skin, the second being modding, and the third being who knows what...
I also think your idea of nominating who can play needs to go away...I'm sure there are alot of modders out there who would like to play, and wouldn't be asked...I'm also sure there's alot of good modders who simply won't bother, because they don't want to...
Nominating all the "good" modders, makes it become a TV show...Some form of reality game where you pit the best against the best for your own entertainment...And I don't see all too many people agreeing to do a dance for you... ;oP
From what I know of myself (I can't speak for others like Swamp and tjc), the mods done take months, and everything has to be right...I don't believe they would bother trying to do a mod in a week (which I think is a good timeframe for this)...It's hard to put out something amazing and new in a week...
But I could see this working as a good modding contest to the <non-insulting word for everyone who's not TF6 and friends>...Being only a week, and having a pre-set theme, really keeps us out, and lets the average modder really shine...
Announce that the contest is going to start in 7 days so people can submit themselves/teams...They can work on general ideas they'd like to see in the mod...And then in 7 days announce the theme and map (which has to be the same for everyone)...After 7 days, all mods must be submitted...In 7 days they're probably not going to try and do a world breaking mod, meaning most of the mods will be on the same playing field...
Then you can have different categories for points, some worth more than others...Use of theme, skins, balance/game play, skew of just how cool the reviewer thought the mod was...And you have a specific set of maybe 10 judges, who can remain at least somewhat impartial, and are willing to try them all...Average the scores for each, and you have your breakdown of who wins...If you let the public vote, then it just becomes a contest of who has the most friends on the forum...
Anywho...Just my thoughts...

Which brings up a point I want to address, if this is ever to happen... The original creator of this thread said Mods/Admins would judge. That should not happen. Just because we are people of power, does that automatically make us experts at the game? Of course not. Several of us don't mod at all, we are just here to moderate.Vinx wrote:iron forge for judge.
Anyway, in my opinion, I don't see a huge difference between this and a MOTM.

I have no intention of judgeing...The last thing I want to do is have to download and play a bunch of mods...
And, I don't think this should replace the MoTM-ish contests...There are some distinct differences...For one, mod contests mods only rules are that the mod be released...You can work on it as long as you want, you may get your idea at any time, impliment it at any time...The mods in the competition are also varied...
This particular competition will be limited in time and area...So after a week, you'll end up with say, 5 mods of zanzibar with an area 51 theme designed for CTF as an example...Then you'll still have 5 distinct mods, but the subtle (or obvious) differences will make it a cool competition in my opinion...
I also think this should be limited to each version of Halo separatly, Halo 2 people doing it for them, HPC can start up their own, etc...
So, I don't think it's better or worse than the current MoTM type contests, they both serve an important purpose... ;o)
