Questions on modding

Post by toonafeesh »

I have done basic modding, mostly just loading in other peoples work.
When I actually begin to mod though, can I use the HMT or HKE for Halo 2(XBOX)
Do the tutorials for any other halo apply similar to halo 2?
I want to skin halo 2 warthogs and insert objects any ideas for me?
Any and all help will be appreciated.
Thank you all in advance

no, halo 1 apps were made before halo 2 came out and although the games have pretty much the same structure, there are still differences so it just wont work.

yes, since both halos are fairly similar you can mod them both using the same approach. the steps might be a little different, but its still the same idea.

download one of the many halo 2 modding tools that allows you to injext/extract bitmaps and then youll want to have photoshop or some other type of image editor to skin your stuff. now "inserting objects" is a pretty general statement, so you have a couple of options. insolence is a great program that allows you to drag items from one map to another. dark matter does the same thing but it will also add custom models but a disadvantage is that right now dark matter maps arent exactly patchable...just look around and try out the various apps and youll see what each ones better for

Well, I definitly appreciate the help.
I keep hearing dothalo is a good program to use. What do you think about it?
I will continue to read about how to skin and place items. It is fairly difficult but I think if I keep studying and reading I can probably figure it out.
Do you have any tips for me?
Thank you again

dothalo is okay i guess...i use it for its kickass reflexive tool and patching utility 8). other than that the main modding apps i use are h2x and adi but you will find that each program offers something that another doesnt, so you will find yourself switching between apps very often. also i suggest you take some time to understand hex, if you know that you can basically do anything you want.
