how do people make realistic looking metal skins?

if you use photoshop make a pattern the go filter/sketch/chrome then play around with it till it looks right then when you get it go to edit deffine pattern then there you go hope i helped man

its pretty cool but i mean like a solid shiny gold or silver its still all wavy and has the litle marks on the side

make a multipurpose map for it take the pistol shader and then voila.!~SHINEY~!
