the game runs bad, even though my system is pretty good

Hi, I have recently decided to replay though the campign of the first game, I decided to go though it on the PC. I just got a new computer..here are the specs
3.2 ghz intel pentium 4 proceser with Hyper Threading
512 mb pc3200 ddr sdram dual channel
ati radeon x600 pro (256 mb)
200 gig hard drive (120 gigs free)

but the game lags alot, even if i set it to like 800 by 600
does anyone know how i can optimize the game withought compromising too much visual quality?

your comp is very good.But remember:
-close all programs
-close all games
-eliminate all your ram *eaters*

Low ram=Laggy Game
Thats for sp for mp its almost normal that it lags,
