yes the learning edition is free. it has some stuff taken out of it. one big thing is that u can only animate 10 frames. but as in actual application it doesnt have a huge difference especially for someone just starting. i suggest learning on that for a while til u get good at it before jumping up, i would look into 3d max also u can get teh 30 day demo which is the full program for free at discreet.com mess with both programs and see which one u like more, they are both great programs.
