I am So Confused... Help!

Post by MC117 »

ok so i have milkshape 3d (the full version), and i got gMAX too, are these the programs people use to make whole new levels???

and, when i was installing gMAX it told me to go register it, so i went to the site gave my e-mail and they mailed me a registration code(i didn't put any credit card numbers on it, (It didn't ask for any), then i put it in the box then installed it. here are my questions about this
1-Is gMaX now going to be free?
2-is it the full version or trail?

Gmax and Milkshake 3D are more than level design. It's for designing any graphic. 3D mostly but with a tweaked render you can even make 2d designs. Not only modeling but even animation and lighting effects and much much more.

Gmax with 1 trillion more features. I think it costs like 500 dollars or even 4000 to 5000 dollars. Sometimes I see t for 500, sometimes 4500. I'm not sure. I'll check their site now.

Yeah, same here. I got the full-blown 3ds Max 6, but it's pretty daunting. Is gmax simpler or just slimmed-down? And how does it compare to Maya or LightWave for ease-of-use?

i have and know my way around all three, im mostly a 3d max guy, once u know one well then its pretty easy to get used to the other, its just one program will call one thing something and the other another so its just finding the right thing for what u want to do, as in power maya and max are about even, some things one can do and the other cant, as in big companies maya is the top choice, as single freelance people, cad schools, etc use max so maya is first max second and lightwave 3rd. they all have steep learning levels for MOST of the stuff in them, there are so many things u can do its amazing, especially in the new max 6 they integraded a bunch of new stuff, 3d vis is being wiped out and most options in it are on 6 now, the particle system and setup in 6 is incredible but very difficult to learn it all, and just alot of little other new things that just make it very fun to use. if ur a student i believe u can obtain max for lik 5-600, but u can always download trials of all the programs, u could get gmax or max 6 for 30 days its the full prog, could get maya learning edition, just some things are taken out like u can only animate for 10 frames, and im not sure if lightwave has a trial but i really would stick with maya or max anyway if u are really gettin into it. but starting out on gmax is fine, better than milkshape anyway just cause if u go to max later then ull still have the same feel cause the layout is very similar.
