Use 3DS Max for Custom (Halo CE) models.

Use Milkshape 3D for editing already-made models (Halo PC). But make sure you don't delete, add, or extrude any vertices.

You can use 3DSMax as long as the model will be an obj when imported.

No, because in PC, you are "raw" editing models. It's build, models, markers, nodes, UV code, and seperation are already present. So, it only allows you to "move" verts around in different areas.

So, if you did manage, you'd have one f'ed up model from the fact that it wasn't built properly from an original tag format.
