There are numerous converters out there, and its not the fact that people want their maps to be the only good ones. Those are selfish people, yes.
1.) Public converters would for the most part turn CE into PC. TOO MANY N00BS. There are so many n00b mods out there that aren't even funny. The maps with neat stuff in them would become unneat and unoriginal now, just because of the converter.
2.) If you feel your map is good enough for some converted stuff, you can then ask someone with a tag converter. Show them your work. Explain to them (In a non-n00b way. Use correct grammar, etc. It makes you look better.) why you feel your map would be good for the content you want converted. If they say no, leave it at that. Forget about it. Your map either sucks, or they just don't like you. Don't push it anymore, you'll just anger people. And odds are you won't create a good enough map anyways. And just because a few people say its good doesn't mean anything. People don't always speak their mind or the truth.
3.) Stealing. Tag converters that are used right now have the ability to open any map file, PC, CE, MP, SP. It can be used to steal peoples content. The people with them are all trustworthy people. They won't steal. A lot of people around, and tons of people here I know, would steal other peoples content, and claim it as their own, or give no credit to the author. People work hard on their custom content, and don't feel like having n00bs running around and ripping it off.

yea and u say that its cheap to rip things. well some people want to get the stuff directly from pc, so that they can work on other things. sure, if they just rip something and thats all, then its stupid. but if you make an awesome map, and create new stuff, and only rip one thing, like some biped, then its fine. what im saying is that ripping should not be considered creative in any way. you need other things.
just like when hmt 3.5 came out and had PMI. people thought that it would ruin things and that there would be a flood of stupid mods. but what you need to do it make a map/mod that is creative and doesnt rely on a PMI or a ripped thing for popularity
[edit] oh yea and a while ago, i had an awesome map that people suggested should have some extracted tags in it. found out who had the tags n such, asked nicely, and i got jack. oh well.

I have a novel concept. What if, like in the linux community, everyone's property was public domain and not just kinda, but blatantly, like everytime someone created a new model or new map or new feature they would immediately post how-to and a model or downloads neccessary to implement it in others maps.. then there wouldn't be a problem with people stealing because it would be freely available.
It can't work, you say? Tell Linus Torvalds that.
Furthermore, people worrying about killing HaloCE? You are joking, right? Look around, This practice of resource and knowledge hoarding hasn't exactly spawned thousands of people interested in playing HaloCE, maybe releasing all that info wouldn't either, but it certainly isn't going to kill the HaloCE scene.
Now I'm not trying to come in here and point fingers - I think the help I've been given has been incredible. I'm just giving my thoughts to comments already made. The point is, communities need to cooperate to survive. The smaller the community, the more sharing needed or it will quickly die out.

Look at Halo CE now, not many players. Besides, if there are crappy maps people won't play them. DO you notice a lot of tutorial map CTF? Nope, it's terrible, teleport right to the flag. But, you see a lot of people playing the good maps. And the good maps will flourish the CE community. Not that anyone will listen.
yeah...I would gladly start a community aimed at free distribution of information if I had any said info..or money for a site..I have neither..LOL
RE: regarding fears that free distribution of information will "kill" haloCE is as logical as saying that Librarys would destroy the literary world. As always, people will simply not play the maps that stink.
My favorite idea would be a site featuring free distribution of info, coupled with reviews of completed maps so people only interested in gaming could come and find quality maps easily. The important thing if you are going to have such a site is realize that the gaming landscape changes. Eventually HaloCE will be like Doom...dead. So the site should occasionally change focus and pick a new community to support. For instance, in the not too distant future, I imagine there will be a Halo2CE. When that happens, I would feel pretty safe in saying HaloCE will die.
Until then, I propose that we continue promoting it - guess what, the HaloCE players of today are the Halo2CE players (and mappers) of tomorrow. After all, its usually a favorite map of someone that inspires someone to become a mapper in the first place.

What some of you said, makes sence. but like someone esle said (tack i belive) tag converters cand praticly do anything, converting ce stuff to pc stuff is what is the bad thing. and w/e your name is that flamed me, did you see bungie release anything big the third week they where making halo2? i didnt. and its not so secret either. ive been trying to post some info on the front page but nothing. once we do get somthing good done, you will know about it. i am HOPING to make a trialer by the end of this month. and for those of you that say HCE is allready dead, read this by Nitro.(and no i am not a big fan of his)
i strongly support him with everything he said.Nitrousoxide: No way! Halo CE is NOT dead! It's very much alive! Unfortunately, not nearly as many people play it as PC and I blame that entirely on it not being a mandatory update. A small percentage of people who play PC games are involved in communities and websites. That small percentage is the only percentage of people who knew about Halo CE, and maybe a few observant people who saw the ticker tape in the lobby screen. Had it been a mandatory update for Halo PC, everyone would be playing CE. Dividing the game into two games was wrong, in my opinion.
........dont ask for tag converting help........
heh...that was a great interview piece....I agree its not dead, you'll not hear me say that it is dead. I'm actually saying that you aren't going to kill it by releasing 'this' software or 'that' software. I also pointed to the fact that given another 15+ years that Halo will simply be a fond memory for us.
