rigged brute

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

argrn can you give me a good how to on rigging? I have spent easily the past 12 hours trying LOADS of different tuts on how to rig a character and it has always failed. What am i missing?
I create a new skeletal biped and make it so that it fits inside mc near enough precisely. Then i select the different areas (i seperated the arms and legs so i could move them independetly of each other) and using the node button asign each part to a part of the skeleton (left arm to left bones etc...) When done though, sure the bones are stuck to the model, but they no longer move, and just distort the model when i try to move them, moving the model just seperates it from the skeleton. All i end up with is a mess that has been distorted around the bones, which havent moved at all. Checked the envelopes and they seem ok.

I am at my nerves end here trying to get this to work, and i follow the tuts exactly with the same results. What am i doing wrong?
