My preferences-
Single Player:
----Half Life2: great story, fun gameplay
----Halo2: boring, corny
Mulitplayer:
----Half Life2: mediocre
----Halo2: fun at times
Physics:
----Half Life 2: unbefreakenlievable
----Halo2: downgraded to get rid of lag
All in all, halo has better multiplayer, that's it.
I voted HL2.
HalfLife2: 47439
Halo2: 47149
it's a close race

1. I would never say that H2 is corny EVER, but to each his own...
2. I also wouldn't say that Halo 2's physics are 'downgraded'. As a metter of fact, they're pretty good... Seeing people do backflips when you snipe them is just too damn rewarding.

It's a well known fact that they downgraded the physics in halo2 for lag fixes. The backflip is just model animations. The ragdoll effect in HL2 is incredible, pick up a gravity gun and throw crates across the map. Or pick up cinder blocks and throw them at enemies. Now that's rewarding.HunterXI wrote:2. link-----> throw a grenade under an oncoming hog and you'll see that the hog doesn't fly over you like it would in halo1. That's because the physics were toned down to get rid of the awful lag from halopc.
Yes, I have played halo2. I was unhappy with some of the physics. Melee a rock in beavercreek and you'll see it bounce like a rubber ball. It's a minor detail, I know.
I do stand corrected on the sniper headshots though. Those are cool, I saw them in a video the other day. But the physics are just subpar relative to half life2's physics. You have to admit, HL2 has the most realistic physics engine ever made.

That's because the grenade's explosion doesn't have enough force to propel a Warthog over you. Halo 2 calculates Force by Weight to figure out such explosions. In Halo 1, if you'll notice, Plasma Grenades had abigger explosion radius as well as much more Force. Yes, those are programmed values.
But that's just because Spartans and Elites are incredibly strong. If a crane were to pick up a rock and drop it from 10 feet (onto relatively solid ground), would it just hit the ground and sit there? No, if the ground couldn't move (Few games have ever had "Geo-deform" engines, and while they were fun, they made the game very unrealistic), AKA it was solid, would the rock (assuming for very strong internal structure ) just hit the ground and sit there?
Yes, HL2's Physics are amazing, but that doesn't mean that H2's suck.

That review is too true. Simply amazing. He said everything I would have said. Now in retrospect, some people do the samething about Halo 2. It's a great game, but Halo 2 has a lot more ups than downs. On the contrary, Half Life 2 has more downs then ups. Period.HunterXI wrote:1. Yup, i guess they stopped the voting.
That website, its completly wrong. The loading times are because it has to load a real time physics ragdoll engine, it has to load real time shadows, real time normal mapping, sub surface scattering, it has to antianalias it all. It even says it uses bump mapping, it uses normal mapping. Loading times are not that random, you can kinda guess that if you walk through a door it might load some.
It has to register a copy onto steam in about 128 bit encryption to stop crackers from putting it up for warez, so you have to buy it. If you ask me it is bloody genius.
Valve diddnt take things too far, people wanted this, a very realistic game, some parts in it look almost photo realistic, computers are advancing so this is pretty much perfect.
The counterstrike source is very good, it does take alot to add the havok ragdoll physics, you have to add constraints to almost every object, it isnt a piece of cake. And they did change quite alot, the mapping, textures... And when you buy it, its like 2 games in one, its awesome.
And it costs

You people... Halo 1 doesn't suck in comparison to Halo 2, it's just an older game. Now, I don't see the logic in the Predecessor being better (that's right - you're wrong), either, but that doesn't mean Halo 1 sucks. Halo 2 is just the next game in the series. It kicks the bar up a bit.
