I've made some progress in that I got my old Halo ISO unpacked and FTPed its contents to my box. So I've got Halo backed up onto my xbox, and I've run HMPi and it worked fine. Problem is when I try to load Halo (either regular Halo or the mappack) it gives me Error 21. I'm guessing this means I can't launch an XBE (like this mappack) when I've accessed EvoX through a hacked gamesave. Can someone confirm this for me? Maybe I can convince myself to buy a new box if I know this one for sure.

did you add the menu code to the evox ini file? also try burning it to a cd(make sure you change the xbe to default.xbe)

Well if others have betrayal and truth workin in syslink then i dont know. Dont remember if i said so, but they work great split screen. Truth is, however, that the other maps have kept myself and about 50 people for the last week or so. Get this. There is a place in town and now they want me to "hook up" all their boxes and put these maps on LOL. I asked them about legalities and they said they could give a rats ass. Anyways ive been taking 4 of my boxes and had 8 people playing at a time. Mombassa gets out of sync here and there but no probs other than that but they really want to play betrayal and truth so I guess im gonna be fixing those in the next couple of days. Thanks for the maps!!! Oh and I will be thanking you with paypal in the next couple of days and hopefully the guys at gamersasylum will too. Rock on.

Finally got your front page on xbox-scene AC!!! congrads! This needs to be made a sticky... maybe team xlink can put it on their front page too...
I was just thinking how cool it would be if you made an installer that installs the conversion pack, nmp 2.0 AND cxe in one shot... I already have it like that, but I think it would be better if everyone else had it like that too...

That sounds very very cool Heet... sounds like I may have a new business idea. Do you know how much business that company gets? Is it pretty popular in town?
GoatNinja - Follow the tut in the utilities section for how HMPi works. You will see that its very easy to have them install at the same time. You can really have every one of the released map packs in one install, on a cd with an autorun that runs HMPi on insert. lol Distributions baby! lol j/k
But seriously, for anyone who is interested in getting these on an xbox when they are building them for other people (*cough* Hizlo) then just burn an installer CD like I described above, that has the Conv, NMP2, CXE, NMP1.1 and whatever packs on it all in one install. That would be a handy little tool for the gamerasylum.com job mentioned above.

Ok, I tried installing the conversion pack again today with no success...
I put a fresh copy of halo on my box and pointed the halo map pack installer that came with the conversion files to it. It uploaded a bunch of stuff but it didnt download anything first. (I noticed that with nmp2/cxe it downloaded stuff first) After it uploaded everything it said it was finished so I hit ok.
I rebooted my xbox and the regular halo was still there. I opened it up in flash fxp and under the halo folder it had new files (the 'conv' folder that had all the maps in it and the new haloconv.xbe file) So I deleted the regular 'maps' folder and renamed the 'conv' folder to "maps". I then deleted the regular 'default.xbe' file and renamed haloconv.xbe to "default.xbe". (thinkin this is what the installer was supossed to do)
I thought I got it installed, and when I rebooted my xbox and went to the games folder, instead of seeing "halo", I saw "halo conversion" or what ever the name was. i got exited and tried to play it but i just got a blank, black screen.
After it failed, I put another fresh copy of halo on my xbox and ran HMPi that came in the nmp2/cxe files. It installed nmp2/cxe without problems. But again it downloaded stuff first. This was not the case with the conversion installer. Am i doing somthing wrong? Is anybody else having these probs?
My xbox is softmodded with evox. I dont think this would be an issue due to the fact that i got nmp2/cxe to work fine. Any ideas guys?

I took the liberty of formatting this post so that others who may have the same problem may be able to read and understand it better. Without any line breaks or capitol letters it all tends to bleed together into one big clump of text and the reader looses thier place a lot. I hope you do not mind.

Yup AC its a very lucrative business now. I talked to the owner the other day and he said the first couple of months were tough, but now its rolling in. They dont really advertise hard but they dont need to. When a 15 yr old kid walks in and has a good time, he goes to highschool and tells everyone about it. Not much better free advertising than that.
When I go in there, there are usually about 3-5 people waiting to play (xbox and ps2 that is) they have so many pc's i cant imagine them not having room. All the pcs are like 3.0GHZ, gig of ram, and ATI 9800's I believe. I think some have nvidia but may be mistaken. They have 2 projector rooms with 6.1 Anyways ya now theyre gonna have tricked out boxes soon.
Its funny now because when i walk in its like Norm for cheers except they say G! (names Gary) cuz they want to play the maps and the place has regulars that seem like they are ALWAYS there. Its like an arcade but with couches, food and drinks, the smell of electricity, and a bunch of people high on caffiene although im usually high on sumthin else

HMPi leaves the original Halo install intact. So that you can play one or the other. HMPi is not supposed to nor is it even programmed to delete the original Halo backup files.mykl wrote:I opened it up in flash fxp and under the halo folder it had new files (the 'conv' folder that had all the maps in it and the new haloconv.xbe file) So I deleted the regular 'maps' folder and renamed the 'conv' folder to "maps". I then deleted the regular 'default.xbe' file and renamed haloconv.xbe to "default.xbe". (thinkin this is what the installer was supossed to do)
If you want the conversion pack to show up in the EvoX menu then I would use the ini method mentioned more than one time in this thread. If you do not wish to edit the config for EvoX and would perfer that it just auto detect the default.xbe (since that is what it seemed you were trying to get it to do) then simply change the name of haloconv.xbe to default.xbe. I would back up the orig default.xbe first as default.xbe.bac since HMPi uses the default.xbe as a source for patching on installs.
Each xbe (including the retail one) is hard coded for which maps folder to look to when loading the main menu and when loading single player and multiplayer maps. What HMPi does is change the value in the xbe for that pack (ex: haloconv.xbe) to look to its own unique folder. That way you can have a seperate xbe and folder with the maps in it without disrupting the originals (default.xbe and 'maps' folder) This should explain why your copy loaded to a black screen when you renamed your 'conv' folder to 'maps'. Since the ui.map (main menu) is in that xbe's corosponding maps folder as well as all the single and multiplayer maps, when 'haloconv.xbe (that you renamed to default.xbe) was laoded it looked for the maps folder specifically named 'conv'. Unfortunately you had renamed it to 'maps' so it could not load the ui.map, or anything else for that matter, so it showed a black screen.
I hope this explaination has shed some light on what HMPi is doing and how Map Packs work in general. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask them.
PS- In this map pack, since I did not use ppf's, it did not require that the original maps be downloaded. Since there was no patching to be done to the maps files. The were pre-compressed and ready to be put onto the xbox by HMPi. That is why you never saw HMPi get any files fomr you xbox durring installation, and is also why this Map Pack is so much larger than any others out before it. (its whole maps, not ppfs)
