How to play modded games?

Good day to you all. I am a boob but I have read the Tuts and I know how to mod and install mods, but how do I play a mod that I have installed?
I know that I have to host my own mods but the ones that I have downloaded I assume I can play online right?
Any helpfull point in the right dirrection would be appreciated.

get somes friends that have also installed the mod (preferably one with a good connection somewhere in the group)

start a sever (preferably on the good-connection computer)

play.

Get your other "boob" freinds, make them Download the mod. Make a server, password it so nobody without mod can get in, and play. [Note that AI mods cannot be played online]

Thanks for the input all a ya. Is there a way to see in server lists if a game is modded? I have no other freinds who play Halo so it would be a little boring to play on my own.

No way to see if its modded.Force your friends to get Halo.I told them i would kill there whole family if they didnt.They ran out and got it
