I just got into the softmodding thing, and I found that I had to search around for all the different things needed. So:
I just finished a small project of mine, i call it "softmodding for dummies". It is a Splinter Cell exploit, PBL, and the Double-Dash mod all in one. All you do is use a conventional gamesave exploit to get FTP access, and paste 2 (yes! only 2) folders to E:\udata. Then you run splintercell, choose "linux" and it will bring up a EvoX with only one menu button, "install mod". It copies the DDE and EvoX to C:\, and PBL (w/ X2 4981.06) to E:\. This is as simple as it gets:
Turn on Xbox, it goes to MS dash. Click "xbox live", it launches PBL and then EvoX. No clock loop or anything like that, only bug is it still resets on eject in the xecuter bios, which makes it go back to the MS dash.
The other alternative to Using another gamesave exploit to get FTP access is to copy the 2 folders to a larger mem card (the size of the folders is 24mb), and copy them to the HDD.
It tested it on my version 1.4 box with dash 4920 and kernel 5101

That'd be great if they didn't have thomson drives... ....Ok one of them already has a modded box with a Samsung(lucky bastard)...The rest are "afraid of softmodding it because they *might* get Live". Not really hard to remove the softmod but....w/e.
As for me, I need a new drive(I hate thomson; I haven't found a disk it will read yet). Might steal my friends Samsung lol.

I have a samsung drive. When I first modded the box it would read anything. I used regular old CDRs and it had no problems. After I fried my second hard drive in it and had to format a third, my samsung wouldn't read anything but CDRWs. Kinda weird.
By the way, DO NOT buy a Maxtor, they are crap. They overheat and fry themselves. Get a Western Digital, they stay nice and cool.

i had one Xbox that I sold premodded, it had a Seagate 120GB drive in it. After less than 2 hours of operation, the drive failed. Completely dead. It would go to the "xbox needs service" screen with error 7 or 8.
I also had 2 maxtor 40gb drives in my PC go bad, and the original Seagate drive in my old version 1.0 Xbox died for no reason.
From now on I only trust WD or Hitachi drives. I've never had one problem with either of these.
an update to my Complete softmod package, i now have one for Splinter Cell and 007. I'm working on a version based on the Mech Assault exploit.

Re: Premoded Xboxes
Hmm, that ltools thing is pretty cool, pretty much makes my little mod thing useless. This one works with ALL version xboxes, ALL kernels and Dashboards. I was playing around with it, the only thing I don't like is that you can't edit the evox.ini file for the EvoX that it installs. It is in some compressed folder that can be opened with winrar, but you can't change anything.PRiMoiCoN wrote:Yomama wrote:Does anyone know anywhere I can buy a premodded xbox?I have an xbox, but I dont want to open it.Its really new so the chipless moding hacks dont work.So I looked around online, and all the the xboxes were $275!So does anyone know a site in the U.S. that sells them for under $200?Nothing fancy, just be able to ftp with my xbox and put cxe on.
