I read somewere (dont remember where) that modding was illegal. Could someone tell me if this is true or if the government cares or not?
Sorry if i sound like a noob but i do want to know.

Modding is not illegal, as long as you don't use it for any kind of gain then you would be sued also you cant use some stuff off movies and games unless you change their names and model them from scratch,Also don't use models that are imported from other games. I hope this explains some issues or question you have with modding.

But it's not like they check here anyway. I've seen plenty of models ripped from other games. Especially UT2k4.
You'll be fine. Supposedly Microsoft is trying to crack down on people modding XBOXs I think. I forget though.

It was mainly about Tomonobu Itagaki REALLY not wanting people doing things *hinthint* with DOAX. They mainly went after the people who mod XBOXs for money. The send your XBOX to us and we'll mod it type of thing.

Most of the times from what i have experienced and heard, they just install the chip and thats it.... So nothing illegal there, but i dont know for sure

so if i wanted 2 make a lightsaber, i cant call it lightsaber i would have to call it something else like "cool glowing stick that hurts" or i can get sued right?
