constantly saying the same thing won't change anything. I personally believe that this map shouldn't be in outstanding, sorry andrew, but I really felt that it could've been better.
But at the same time, with all the tools we have now, doing things that would be outstanding arent anymore. I know we always say that it's because those things are easy now, but in that case what is outstanding? Apparently the only thing that'll get into outstanding is re-skinning every map, or doing something to every map the likes of FTW or FTD.

No bribery or anything like that. It was ultimately his decision, not mine. Do not blame me for having a map in outstanding. I am not taking sides in any of this argument.shadowkhas wrote:I'll give it a playthrough and take a look at it.Andrew_b wrote:People have been saying they would like to see my map in outstanding. First things first, Ombre, I'm not trying to go above your opinion with my own at all. I thought that I had explained my reasoning for a move in my post. Secondly, I didn't notice the conflicting opinions in the topic before I moved it and checked back on it later.
My apologies, Ombre, for not seeing the discussion earlier. That's my fault. I merely want to make my motives more known. Ombre, if you wish to continue this through private messages, feel free to send me one, and I'll clear up this topic.
I don't go through the PC/CE sections moving things into Outstanding as I see fit, as I'm sure people would say that "zomg shadowks hates my <map/mod/skin/hax>!!!" if I elect to not move theirs.

Yes, but it plays on the standard PC platform. If it was in CE outstanding, and it was a PC map, that would probably get a bit confusing...that's why I think it should be here. Why I moved it was because it feels like a normal map...I can play through CE maps and get the feeling that it's just a manufactured map, but other times, maps feel more natural when they're played through. This one felt so, and I moved it.Ombre wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but this mod was made entirely using CE tools right? Then it was just converted to PC? To me, Halo PC Outstanding Mods forums are meant for exactly that. Outstanding PC mods, not average CE maps converted to PC.
Well, I think that it should've had recognition even if it was just a standalone CE map. The fact is that these days, not that much gets moved into Outstanding. If members feel like their mods/maps/whatever should get moved into Outstanding, that's one of their responsibilities, as well. I browse the PC section occasionally, but not enough to download every single mod or skin. If a user like Andrew PMs me, then I will play the mod, and evaluate it on how I feel. My personal opinion? This should be a CE map, and doesn't really have to be in the PC section. But it is, and that's the user's choice to do. Who am I to say that it's bad? If that's the form in which the mod is presented, it will be evaluated as such. And, as you said as well, a situation for converting a CE map is one where the creator wants users on Macs to play his games. Sure, that percentage of the userbase is falling, now that all Intel-based Macs can play Halo: CE natively, but it's still an option.Ombre wrote:I am merely trying to make sure that the Outstanding forums don't get cluttered with 100 average CE maps that were converted because they wouldn't get recognition otherwise.

If map creators want to PM me about the possibility of a move to Outstanding, I'm all ears. Like I said above, anyone can ask me to take a look at their creation, and I will.Cryticfarm wrote:Just to tell you, in the ce downloads section there are many mods better then this, that don't make it to the ce outstanding. So you're saying that if the creator converted them, it should automatically make it into the pc outstanding?

So he used the harbringer or whatever its called to take a CE map, and allow it to run on the PC, whoopey.shadowkhas wrote:!

In its CE form, its nothing more than an average map.
There are quite a few other maps that are far higher quality than this one that could be easily converted by the authors just and make it into the PC outstanding.
This really cant be considered a PC mod on any level.

Too bad that it actually is a PC mod, so that point you're trying to make is senseless.selentic wrote:So he used the harbringer or whatever its called to take a CE map, and allow it to run on the PC, whoopey.

I think you should tone down on the bitterness, and cease causing anymore clutter in this topic.

But I still hear the deafening drums of war onward every twisted spoke
Except that its not a PC mod, its a CE map patched to run on the PC platformMr.Brightside wrote: Too bad that it actually is a PC mod, so that point you're trying to make is senseless.

Okay, how about this decision: Outstanding Mods is not a popular vote.selentic wrote:Or it could be decided here and now to prevent this problem in the future.
Ombre and I will discuss this further. You've made your point, selentic. Any further posts in this topic other than Ombre's will be deleted. If you have something to say to me, use Private Messages.

Ombre and I exchanged a PM. This topic is staying here. Any future mods that will be moved into Outstanding will be looked at by multiple staff, so that we get broader viewpoints on a decision, and so that there isn't any misunderstandings between us.
Furthermore, from now on, CE maps ported into PC, if they want to be in Outstanding, should have a CE-section equivalent, and they will be considered for moves into that Outstanding section. If there is a CE/whatever mod or map that you feel is Outstanding material, feel free to PM me, and it can be brought up to other Staff members (over time, you should be able to PM any Staff member, but as this is a new idea, I'll bring up the concept with the first next message of this type that I get from a member.
That conversation is done and over with, now let's get on to the map.

(booooo! T.T >*insert childish temper tantrum here*< )
Overall this is an OK map.. really laggy in some areas, and the water didn't look that great. Not to mention the narrow hallways.
But it is clean and well put together.. nice job

Yay bungie shadersTeh_Kitsune wrote:and the water didn't look that great.
You dont like my forunnerish halls?Teh_Kitsune wrote:Not to mention the narrow hallways.
Edit: About the portalling thing. I did it so much your computer wouldnt have to render more than about 500 vertices at one time. If you can play deathisland perfectly, I really don't see how that can be.

Yes some bungie shaders suck nuts, its better to make your own. (unless you mean its shader types in general)
hehe, I LOVE your forerunner halls, just not the size >.>
I think the laggy area was in the base or something.. may have been my computer atm though. I have a pretty decent system.. (7200 512mb Nvid, 1 gig RAM, 3.0 Ghz s.c.) Then agian, may have been one of my own settings (mods/skins/etc); but w/e point being its a nice new BSP.
Btw, yes the sewers are sweet. And a lot of little details like the designs on the walls and such really bring out the map. The modeling was well done (that coming from someone with little modeling experience)
