ADPCM codec

Too bad I had to "upgrade" to Windows XP. I believe I used to not need this, but now I do.

For those newbies out there, this codec will let you open and save ".wav" sounds for Halo PC. This is not for ogg sounds however, you can find a converter for that somewhere else. In all honesty, finding something that'll allow you to edit wav sounds for halo maps is invaluable and rare- they are the most common sound file in Halo maps.

Also, please do not PM me about any questions you have about this codec.

Original instructions:

-= INSTALLATION OF XBOX ADCPM CODEC =-

1) Right click "XBADPCMinst.inf", then click install.
Remember to RIGHT CLICK! Double clicking will only open the file in text form. Also, Windows may ask you if you "still want to proceed..." say yes to do so anyway.

Now I've modified the rest of the instructions...

Control Panel>>System>>Hardware>>Device Manager>>Sound, video and game controllers>>Audio Codecs
Go to the properties tab
double click Xbox ADPCM Audio CODEC
make sure the radio button is selected for "use this audio codec"
set priority to 1.
Ok.

You're done. Every media device you have should now work with it.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I do not take any responsibility for any effects this codec has on your operating system. You've been warned!
Note, I hardly doubt anything harmful would ever come of the codec

By the way, it took a lot of research to find this. Why hasn't this been posted for a while?

Glad someone found it helpful. Thanks!

Edit: I suggest that if you're saving files with this codec, that you use goldwave. Sounds will have different formats, so before you inject your custom sound into a map, make sure that:
1.) the sound is slightly larger or the same size as the original
2.) you save it as XBOX (not microsoft) ADPCM
3.) I noticed that most sound files from bloodgulch (.wav format) had (2) stereo, 44.1 HZ (some will be different, especially for some of the .wav sounds for the user interface map). Save the sound you are overwriting, right click and check out its properties to get the correct format.

So what, do we edit sounds from the track or chunk? I successfully got some new sounds in through the track but they were in .ogg and took ages to get correct. I have goldwave and all but I need help! Sometimes my sounds just get cut off while other times they just crash on me. I already installed the Xbox ADPCM codec following your instructions.
